I have realized various gains and challenges while undertaking the literature classes. A major gain is differentiating literature review from other academic works such as an annotated bibliography and book review. I have also learned literature review skills such as reading and analyzing sources for my literature review topic (Hart, 2018). Resultantly, my capacity to assess and synthesize scholarly sources has improved considerably. In this case, I believe I have achieved the first learning objective regarding the examination of scholarly literature review conventions. The new learning has improved my ability to evaluate data through in-depth analysis to decide whether the literature makes a meaningful contribution to my topic (Ridley, 2012). In this respect, I believe my capacity to identify and evaluate scholarly sources through the distinction between empirical literature and non-scientific literature has been achieved. My in-depth understanding of the importance of conducting literature reviews has improved my capacity to identify, evaluate, and synthesize scholarly sources by conducting vital literature-review search strategies.
A key challenge in the course is concerned with using diverse vocabularies. I am finding it hard to improve my advanced writing skills by using appropriate vocabulary. Resultantly, my capacity to assess and synthesize scholarly sources has suffered. Another challenge is related to synthesizing literature in an organized and non-biased manner. In most cases, my literature reviews contain subjective and disorganized content. This scenario has affected my capacity to source, assess, and synthesize scholarly sources against the fifth learning objective.

I completed my action step by reading more books and scholarly articles and increasing my knowledge of vocabulary. I learned that each topic has its specialized vocabulary, and, in this case, reading scholarly articles from different fields will improve my vocabulary pool. I applied the learning in my assignment by using specialized vocabulary that is appropriate for the topic.
