Reading assessment entails tasks given to students to evaluate their ability to understand the content they have read in a particular field. At the same time, Instructional goals are objectives that entail tasks that students should manage after a reading experience. In reading the instructional goals are vital as they can be utilized as assessment tasks to measure the level of students understanding. 

Purpose of Reading Assessments 

The purpose of reading assessments is to understand the needs of every student and to identify their strengths. This is because assessment provides timely and detailed information that is useful to the teacher to shape instruction into ways that meet the needs of learners. Therefore assign assessment help to determine the students’ nature of learning, diagnose weaknesses and identify strengths in learning and determine the effectiveness of reading programs.

Primary goals for Instruction 

The primary goals for instruction in English are to gain the ability to think critically, understand grammatical structures, understand vocabulary, and gain listening skills. Other goals include attain fluency in reading comprehension, differentiate between opinions and facts enhance the different reading skills such as decoding, skimming, and scanning. 

Instructional activities and Informative assessment tasks 

Tasks that can serve as instructional activities and informative assessment include Research and collecting information, Group discussion tasks, writing summaries on a subtopic the teacher is yet to tech thus encourage reading ahead. (Alvarez et al. 2014) 

Rubrics to rate assessment activities 

Following assessment results, I will utilize tables, graphs and reports to rate the activities. The tables will provide a good presentation in numerical terms while the reports will give detailed explanations. 

Criteria to conduct an assessment. 

After the first assessment, I will understand the strengths and weaknesses of my students. If there are more weaknesses in the students, I will ensure there are frequent assessments. This is the criteria I will use to monitor their progress. 

Importance of Feedback 

I will always provide students with feedback on their performance. Positive feedback will motivate learners, while negative feedback will help learners identify their areas of weakness. Feedback is thus important for the sake of progress.
