Baby boomers, also known as boomers, are a cohort demographic preceding Generation X and following the Silent Generation. The Generation comprises people born between 1946 and 1964 after World War 2 and is commonly known as the 'shock wave' and parents to Millennials and late Generation Xers (Anderson, 2017). On the other hand, Generation Y, also known as Millennials or Gen Y, is a population group before Generation Z and following Generation X. Most millennials range in a group of people born between 1981-1996 and have baby boomers and early Generation Xers as their parents. The two generations show multiple variations right from their cultural beliefs, traditions, and socio-economic and political ideologies due to a wide gap between their lives. Baby boomers believe they are wiser than Gen Y because they have more life experiences than their children (Anderson, 2017). This essay addresses the differences between the two generations and how to develop and create a mutual relationship.

Compared to Generation Y, who think they are entitled to everything globally, the baby boomer generation works for what is theirs. The boomers realize that the world does not owe them anything, and it is their role to develop a comfortable life for themselves since nobody is going to spoon-feed them their entire lives (Sheldon et al., 2021). Therefore, the boomers were an independent generation since they depended on themselves and lacked support from anyone. Also, the boomer generation has a high attention span compared to Gen Y. Boomers may work on a project that they have no interest in since it may not have any value to them, but they will still maneuver their ways and ensure the work is accomplished. On the other hand, Millennials lack attention span because most of them undergo Attention Deficit Hyper-Activity Disorder. Generation Y continuously seeks gratification and cannot complete work independently (Sheldon et al., 2021). Also, boomers expressed their sentiments through physical communication, but Millennials use technology such as social media platforms.

In conclusion, to develop a mutual relationship between the boomers and Generation Y, both parties can decide to acknowledge their generational differences. It is impossible to agree with a conflicting party if both fail to find the root cause of their problems, also called fact-finding (Kosterlitz & Lewis, 2017). Once the two generations admit they vary from each other from their cultural traditions, lifestyles, and social beliefs, it would be easy to co-exist peacefully. With the emerging trend in technology that Millennials widely embrace to enhance communication, the boomers may also learn how to use technological equipment like smartphones and computers to stay updated (Kosterlitz & Lewis, 2017). Since boomers value a law-abiding lifestyle, Millennials can also emulate the same in their daily activities by avoiding trouble to create good terms with their parents.
