United States’ Civil Rights Movement refers to the fight against social injustices that took place in the 1950s and 1960s for Black Americans to get the same rights under the United States’ law. The paper seeks to provide an explanation of the basic fundamental freedoms the black people sought in the US during the civil rights movement.

To begin with, the Freedom of Religion had been deprived of the Blacks, as Blackman was not allowed to practice his religion freely. Secondly, the fundamental Freedom of Speech which was meant to allow a person to express his or her opinions without restriction. This was not the case for blacks because no one would freely express his mind without censorship. Additionally, there was oppression on the Freedom of Press, journalists were not allowed the right to expressly circulate their opinions in the United States without being arrested and put to torture. Another fundamental freedom that African Americans were denied is the Right to Peacefully Assemble where Blacks were not to Collectively come together articulate and shield their thoughts, this warranted arrest and imprisonment without trial in the courts. More so, the Right to Petition of Citizens for redress of grievances was only meant for white people, no Black was allowed to petition as this was treated as an offense.
