During project management, activities performed that lead to sustained competitive advantage over similar enterprises are considered as best practices. Best practices can be derived from both the failures and the successes of the organization (Kerzner, 2005). The best practices are then adopted by the organization in order to bring about achievement of organization goals. Clinical research is guided by Good Clinical Practice (GCP) to ensure acceptance of research findings by the stakeholders (Arango et al., 2016).
Clinical research involves data collection, data analysis and documentation of findings. GCP has been adopted by all the clinical professionals so as to fulfill the business, scientific and ethical standards for clinical trials. GCP encompasses regulations and laws, guidelines and generally accepted practices by the relevant stakeholders (Arango et al., 2016). The adoption and validation of GCP by all the stakeholders as a guide in the research process ensures adoption of best practices in all the processes.

During clinical research, investigators are required to undergo GCP training prior to the exercise (Arango et al., 2016). They are taught on the accepted methods of carrying out the research to fulfill regulatory expectations. Sponsors are expected to select a team that has undergone the training (Arango et al., 2016). Practices accepted at the professional level are considered best practice (Kerzner, 2005).
For a practice to be considered a best practice, the management has to support the action (Kerzner, 2005). In clinical research, findings are documented and disseminated to the relevant stakeholders. In clinical research, information collected is handled by data managers hence involvement of managers in the process. Project management team is also involved in selection of the team to undertake the research process (Arango et al, 2016).
