J. Crew’s global supply chain map combines the supplier, intermediaries, distribution centres, transportation to the store, the physical stores, and the final supply to the retailers. It includes the process for the Madewell Brand. The supply chain starts with the suppliers of raw materials. Suppliers may use intermediaries to deliver the sourced raw materials to the distribution centres. Alternatively, suppliers may deliver directly to the distribution centers. From the distribution centers, there are logistic processes that are used to spread the products to the stores. From the store, the products are supplied to the retail stores. Customers may visit the retail stores and buy the products. Customers may, as well, order their products from J. Crew’s online shopping processes.

The supply chain starts with the sourcing of high-quality materials. Inspection of sourced materials is important to ensure the products supplied from the producers are well-harvested and processed in a perfect may. During the inspection, the officers must ensure suppliers have high regard for social responsibility (J.Crew, 2019).  J. Crew intends to adopt a lean supply chain and reduce waste. It considers the conservation of energy and minimizing environmental impacts (Ismael, 2019). J.Crew commits to reducing the carbon footprints and preserve the environment while acting in compliance with international and national laws. It has a robust code of conduct for its suppliers and vendors. It regards and upholds laws and policies on child labor and discriminatory employment or recruitment processes. J. Crew’s supply chain policies emphasize the need to ensure proper remuneration, ensure health and safety, and the security of employees. J. Crew implements a strict code of vendor conduct that prohibits collusion and collaboration among vendors to act against its policies through acts such as the use of forced labor during cotton harvesting (J.Crew, 2019). Besides, J. Crew has strict rules against violation of animal welfare. Suppliers to the company must adopt practices that are consistent with the animal welfare rules.

Sandblasting is another process that J. Crew recognizes as posing critical concerns about safety in its supply chain. It is a process that poses possible threats to employees in case of their failure to use protective equipment. Sandblasting is a process conducted under high pressure to deliver a well-processed and finished denim. J. Crew’s supply chain is a process that must involve legal procedures that meet ethical standards (J.Crew, 2019). All suppliers of J.Crew must enhance compliance with all applicable laws that improve the safety and health of their employees. Suppliers must enhance cleanliness, safety and minimal health effects at the work environment. J.Crew has a robust program that ensures compliance with customs and security at the local, nationals and global levels. In cases when transhipment is a prohibition under the customs and duty laws or regulations, J.Crew commit to strict compliance with their provisions.
