Genesis 1

Genesis one begins by focusing on the story of creation and humans’ place in it, which fits it in the broader context and biblical narrative. This chapter proves how God created the world and shows how the bible is different from other scriptures written before people’s realization of God’s importance. Also, Genesis 1 records how God created time and space and filled the entire globe within six days of the week to connect with what is before and what is after. Subsequently, it is only the theme of creation that is structured. The theme provides the basic rhythm for Israelite’s life within nature, a framework for blessings and promises to Israelites, and the unity for God’s creative works. The point of tension is when Genesis 1 explores the age of the earth. The genealogy of Adam and Eve as expounded on in Genesis 1 is non-exegetical and gives answers to specific questions that arise about the age of the universe based on the creation account. Thus, the chapter reveals the supernatural power of God.

When I look at these stories, I find it interesting how the earth was. I try to imagine that earth was like a big blob. I also tend to believe that the surface was not shaped correctly. This chapter, therefore, raises a question of how God managed to build everything like a game. I mean, how possible is it to find something empty and arrange things inside until you get a perfect fitting? I find this question difficult to answer. Otherwise, I am learning that I hold an important place in God’s plan according to the biblical story. By God creating me, I believe he saw a good thing that I am capable of doing, which I cannot prove myself until He decides. I also learn that by God placing trees on the land, making the sky blue, and completing his task within six days is symbolic, and no one can achieve that level of creativity.

Genesis 6

Genesis 6 expounds on the theories of the sons of God that make it fit in the broader context and biblical story. The theory proves that there are three theories which explain the falling of angels, who are also referred to as the sons of God. Subsequently, the theories in this chapter show how God was eager to destroy everyone, which connects with the sins before and what comes later. Additionally, this chapter touches on the themes of the roles of Noah towards liberation and how he found favor in God. Point of tension is when the discussion of living creatures and their rise from the ground on the last days make parts of this chapter. Otherwise, there are at least two traditions in Genesis 6 that ranges from the culture that believes in the general concept of an animal trek into the ark to the perception that believes that believe in exclusion of one pair of animals from the ark. Conclusively, Genesis 6 expounds on the general flood that was sent by God to wipe out the sinning population, which reveals the ungrateful side of humanity.

What strikes me in this chapter is how essential it is to walk with God. I understand that there will be times that we will mess up, but I do not want to imagine what will happen if they happen when we are far from God. This question has me thinking of what will happen if there would be no one close to God as Noah was. It is worrying about being sure that there will be no one who will help all of us as Noah did, and I find this difficult. I am learning that my place in the biblical story depends on how close I get to God. Now, I know what God expects me to do and what I cannot do. I believe that he will guide me through spirits the way he guided Noah. I think that just like Noah, I can be able to go about my daily activities, but still be in constant communion with God.
