Death is inevitable, no matter what somebody possesses or does it will still come. Sometimes people take matters into their own hands and decide to end their lives; this is what is known as suicide. For most, it is a form of escape which comes as a result of pain or suffering. Some suicides are influenced by culture, type of personality and individual situations. Despite all the problems out there one must not feel like suicide is the only option that they have. More preventative measures must be made available in order to prevent suicides.
According to DeSpelder & Strickland (2015), cultural disruptions play a part in influencing suicides. An example is how the Native Americans were forced into reservations and their way of life looked down on. This led to them feeling powerless about their situation. Additionally, many of the Native Americans who moved to big cities found it difficult to become acclimated with the way of life. The pressures of being away from their families, support systems and way of life would lead to dysfunctional behaviors such as alcohol abuse which heightens the risk of suicide. A lot of people may be having problems with getting accustomed to the big city life. According to DeSpelder & Strickland (2015), suicide crisis centers have been very effective in helping countless people. As a doctor with all the right tools, I would create centers where people who have just moved to the city can meet and feel at home. These places would teach people on how best to go about life in the city and some dos and don’ts. It would also offer a safe environment where one can talk to a professional counselor and be encouraged to take part in group activities. Having such centers can avert any possible stresses that can arise and lead to suicide. Most people just want to feel like they belong somewhere, and these centers would serve as such.

Every person at some point in their lives is plagued with many environmental factors that can influence suicide. A lot of suicides have been linked to stressful life events, these may involve family life or economic situations. Due to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, there has been a rise in suicides and most of them are not from combat but the military. Being in combat tends to worsen an already existing problem (DeSpelder & Strickland, 2015). As a doctor, I would make the military take mandatory counseling sessions and encourage them to take part in activities that fight post-traumatic stress. In communities, I would first look at schools in order to prevent suicide. Staff and faculty members need to have the necessary training to spot children that show signs of suicide risk. If the staff is able to spot a child that is suicide prone, they can then apply intervention measures. In communities, there is a need for crisis centers and hotlines. People need to know that there is always somebody ready to talk and listen to them.
Suicide is something that everyone needs to be educated about, cultures must stop making it seem okay in certain situations. It is not okay in any situation and we must allow nature to take its course. Granted, people do experience colossal amounts of suffering and pain but they must also be made aware that is not going to last forever. People who feel that suicide is the solution need to know that there are people they can talk to that can offer solutions. More help should be availed to prevent suicides and people should know about it.
