The British government gave a team if tribal groups found in south-eastern Arabia a name known as Trucial state. They were Trucial Sheikhdoms, Trucial Coast, Trucial Oman and the Trucial States of the Coast of Oman. This name was derived from the territories where their sheiks had signed treaties meant for protection also known as truce as therefore Trucial ( Crouzet, 2019) . These Sheikhdoms were allies with the United Kingdom through several treaties starting with General Maritime and Perpetual Maritime Truce made in 1853. In 1892, they finally entered into an exclusive agreement with the United Kingdom and as a result, they were put under British protection. However, this protection was under unclear circumstances and as a result, it did not meet the formal protectorate status, rather, it called for Britain to offer defines from external aggression and n return get some exclusive British rights in their states.

For years the region was full of rivalries that happened between the locals and pirates who sought refuge at the state's shores. As a result, Britain resulted in fighting the pirates so they could protect their business and trade with India ( Smith, 2019) . In return, Britain developed ties with the Trucial States. In 1820, these ties were formalized and Britain was expected to offer protection and in return gained exclusivity with emirs ( Taryam, 2019) . Therefore, they were expected to not make any other agreements/treaties with anyone apart from Britain. Also, they resolved to settle other disputes through the British authorities and this relationship was to last till 1971.
