Is the research topic appropriate?

The research topic is the challenges of female entrepreneurs operating in the Middle East. This is a great topic as the study shall provide an insight into the real problems faced by female entrepreneurs in the Middle East, a place that has been stereotyped for female discrimination. However, the scope of the study- Middle East is so vast for the Middle East includes countries like Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Cyprus, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia. Although the researcher delimited the study to three countries Turkey, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates, three countries cannot be a perfect representation of the Middle East. Thus, the researcher would have coined the research topic to be the challenges of female entrepreneurs operating in Turkey, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates.

Is the sample of study sufficient?

The size of the sample used in a study has a significant impact on the power of the research. In the study, the researcher used only six samples as representative of the total population of all female entrepreneurs operating in the Middle East. The sample size is too small to represent a possible population of over 10 million female entrepreneurs operating in the Middle East. The problem with small sample size is that there is a likelihood that the study results are skewed by Type II error. The researcher would have increased the sample size so that the study results become representative of the entire female entrepreneurs operating in the Middle East.

Is the research methodology appropriate?

The study utilized an exploratory study methodology to explore the challenges of female entrepreneurs operating in the Middle East. In research, an exploratory design is used in preliminary studies where no research has been done before or where researchers have no clue of the phenomenon under investigation. However, on page 4 of the thesis, the researchers assert that "…the authors are aware that there are different factors affecting an entrepreneur and her success.' With the fact that the researchers are aware of the existing challenges facing female entrepreneurs operating in the Middle East, then this should not be an exploratory study. The researcher would have adopted an investigative research on the challenges facing female entrepreneurs operating in the Middle East.

Is the sampling procedure appropriate?

The study adopted a purposive sampling design to establish the sample subjects to participate in the study. Purposive sampling is a good sampling procedure since the selected sample has the correct information about the issue under study. However, purposive sampling, specifically if done on a small sample size, is highly vulnerable to errors due to the researcher's judgment. Often, purposive sampling leads to less reliable data due to the high levels of bias; hence research findings from purposive sampling cannot be authoritatively generalized to represent an entire population. The researcher would have adopted sampling procedures that are less biased, including the use of simple random sampling, which allows the equal probability of consideration into the sample.

Is the research instrument valid and reliability?

Before a research instrument is adopted for a study, it has to be tested for validity and reliability. The instrument has to correctly measure the construct being investigated, and it has to reliable measure construct consistently during the study. It is not clear in the study how the researcher tested the validity and reliability of the instrument before the study was done. In the event the instrument was not tested for validity and reliability, then the study results are not credible. The researcher would have tested for the questionnaire validity to ensure the instrument is clear and precise without any ambiguity, and reliability is tested using the Cronbach alpha coefficient.
