Introduction

Schools play a crucial role in imparting youths with sets of skills and knowledge that allow them to become responsible contributors to society as they grow into adulthood. Although the primary goal of education in schools today is to promote understanding of core skills among children including writing, reading, and basic arithmetic, these skills alone are not adequate for a child to achieve success. Children should be able to learn the spiritual principle and values through education in order to survive effectively in the contemporary society.

Importance of Teaching Biblical Principles/Values in the Classroom

In the contemporary schools, discipline has become one of the major concern for educators. According to the bible, Proverbs 22:6 states, ““train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not depart from it.” This verse provides an evident explanation of why faith-based education is very important. Teaching biblical principles and values offers students a strong sense of direction in life and enables them to share same values and beliefs that provide a significant experience in education. This means that educating students on biblical principles and values help to eliminate the disciplinary challenges that educators face because students will not test the boundaries of their parents and teachers. In addition, teaching students biblical principles and values would help them be well equipped with knowledge and skills that would enable them to contribute positive to their families, community, and the world. Moreover, it allows students to be well equipped so as to be able to take on all challenges that occur in life, have the spirit of possibility and hope, and shape their leadership potential ( Cross, Campbell-Evans & Gray, 2018). Therefore, through the process of learning and education, students are able to experience transformation and obtain underrating of the world.

Teaching Biblical Principles in Public Schools

The bible has shaped significantly the world we live in today. It comprises of various vital lessons that shapes moral standards in students. For instance, in Proverbs 15:27, the bible teaches us that, He who is greedy for unjust gain troubles his household, but the man who denies bribes shall live”. This verse teaches us that if a person becomes greedy, they are likely to end up without a house. A person who learns these lessons is able to abide by them and they will be happy they did at some point of their life. This is similar to the way a student may fail to listen to their teacher during class. Many high school graduates in American in the contemporary society have regrets of failing to pay attention in class or dropping out. Additionally, biblical principles should be taught in public schools because the morals and standards applied by the founding of American and other western democracies were obtained from the bible. This means that most of the laws and moral codes of western societies are underpinned by the biblical standards and morals. However, educators should not teach about religion but most importantly, they should teach the biblical morals and standards, which shaped the world we live in ( Fraser, 2016). Therefore, biblical teachings should be taught, as a proper academic subject to prevent conflict of interest based on religion since public schools comprises of students from different religious backgrounds.

Conclusion

It is evident that biblical principles and values have a significant beneficial impact on students and their behavior. It helps to provide them with a strong sense of direction that allows them to be positive contributors to the world. In addition, biblical education allows them to understand the world and appreciate it and brings a moral text into the classroom. Therefore, the bible is excellent moral code that can always be used as a point of reference to guide behavior among students.
