Child abuse has emerged to be the major social problem, which is a result of social media because social media platforms can make a negative or positive impact on the view of child abuse. The usefulness of social media platforms is seen where they are being used in reporting matters concerning child abuse to the public. Publications in social media help inform the public about the forms of child abuse that happens in different communities and how to create awareness on the same (Berger, 2014). It also helps in discouraging perpetrators of child abuse; therefore, the publication is also helpful in sensitizing the public to air their opinions on matters concerning child abuse and direct them to the appropriate personnel. With social media, reports concerning child abuse can be circulated to a large number of people (Davies et al., 2017). This result can be accredited to numerous publications on different social media platforms such as on Television, shows, and many soap operas. Thus a large variety of audience is easily reached per day and at any moment because of more publications. Some of the audiences include victims, Human Rights activists, the government, and the police.

During news broadcasting in various radio stations, this issue of child maltreatment is also usually addressed; hence, it also enhances awareness to many people. This result is because radio listeners are many compared to other sources of social media. In the United States, child maltreatment is encouraged by the following means; child abuse and neglects of a child. Child neglect can be seen when a child is either neglected physically and emotionally. However, in most cases, emotional neglect sometimes remains undetected by many (Berger, 2014). Child abuse has resulted in many crimes in the adulthood stage because it can promote unwanted behaviours among the victims of child abuse. After all, the abuse affects a person's brain, where the child develops poor discerning skills, mistrust, and low self-esteem.
