Now and then, the world gets to hear shocking cases of child pedophiles in major news broadcasting stations. Sadly, pedophilia is a challenge that scientists and even society at large, struggle to find a lasting solution. One of the core reasons why addressing child pedophile has been, and remains a challenge is the misconception that pedophilia is a criminal act. It is imperative to note that contrary to the pre-formed notion that pedophilia is an immoral act, in reality, pedophilia is a status. Therefore, it is significant to eradicate the formed bias that pedophilia is a crime, and undertake all-inclusive research in finding out a workable remedy to the above social disorder.

Punitive Measures

Remarkably, most studies argue for imposing punitive measures in solving child pedophile offences. The three main punitive ways are: chemical circumcision, imprisonment and listing of perpetrators on sexual offender registry.

Chemical Circumcision

Child pedophile is a severe crime that leaves the child and his or her family in trauma. The effects of child sexual abuse usually are grave and haunt the affected children to advanced ages in life. Remarkably, the mentioned incident is a permanent stain that is impossible to erase and therefore, a severe penalty must be put in place to hinder child molestations. Most studies concur that stricter penalties must be reinforced to deter child pedophiles. Most researches vouch for chemical circumcision upon establishing the cause of the malpractice. Chemical circumcision is a sure remedy considering that it reduces the culprits’ sexual drive thereby preventing child sexual abuse (Warjiyati, 2019) However, there are concerns that in a case where mental disorderliness drives the act, it would culminate to gross social injustice. Therefore, administration of chemical circumcision is undertaken after erasing any doubts of mental disorderliness.

Imprisonment

Research has it that detention is the primary punishment to child molesters. Imprisoning child abuse culprits serves as a deterrent initiative as no one would love to find himself/herself in the confines of prisons (Berryesa, 2014). Protagonists are agitating for lengthening of imprisonment terms for child pedophile perpetrators. The prison serves as a corrective center where the perpetrators get a chance to reform their criminal behavior. Upon serving the prison term, one is integrated back in the society in the hope that one has embraced societal ethics. Under incarceration, one undergoes a lot of experiences that tend to yield positive outcomes upon completion of the prison terms that usually takes years to accomplish. For instance, sexual offenders tend to be lonely than other offenders because they experience hostility from correctional officers and even fellow prisoners but with different convictions (Van den Berg, Beijersbergen, Nieuwbeerta, & Dirkzwager, 2017).

Sex Offender Registry

Ultimately, there is already a plan in place to establish a sex offender registry that notes all the sex perpetrators. The relevant authorities impose restrictions to all the perpetrators that are recorded in the registry to serve as a deterrent initiative against such offenses (Cooley, Moore& Sample, 2017). Once in the registry, there are restrictions on where one can go to and where an individual is allowed to work as well. For example, one is not allowed to work where there are children like kindergartens, and child care centers. Sex offender registry serves as a punitive measure aimed at hindering not only repeat the behavior for fear of being noted in the registry but, new offenses as well out of fear of being listed as well. The repercussions of recording in the registry are way gross for would be child pedophile offenders as every mentally sound person would not want to dent his or her reputation and be baptized as a sexual offender.

Limitations of the Study

In as much as most studies concur that punitive measures are crucial in deterring child pedophile incidences, there are other barriers that pose a barrier to punishments. Notably, the sexual offenders exhibit social isolation and loneliness while in detention that interferes with the rehabilitation process (Fuller, 2013). Again, punitive measures do not address the child pedophile cases adequately; some mental disorder cases require a combination of medication and cognitive-behavioral therapy (Kershnar, 2015)

Conclusion

From the above discussion, it is clear that child pedophile is a severe challenge that society must overcome through thick and thin. In as much as pedophilia is a social disorder, it has gross effects on the victims of the malpractice and strict corrective measures must be put in place to prevent such occurrences or impose severe penalties to perpetrators of child pedophile. Myriad researches concur that punitive measures offer the best ways of dealing with child pedophile. Firstly, chemical castration is gross and deters every person from indulging in a sexual offense. No one would wish a reduction of his or her sexual drive in such a way. Moreover, imprisonment serves to hinder perpetrators from engaging in child molestations. Lastly, the listing of offenders in sexual offender registry dissuades one from indulging in the malpractice. Therefore, punitive measures reduce child pedophile cases. Overall, there is a negative correlation between punitive measures and child pedophile cases.
