The choice of classroom management practices is often dependent on the age of the students, their needs and stipulated curriculum. I plan to incorporate both child-centered and behavioral management practices. A combination of the two approaches would generate a holistic management approach that would optimize learning without compromising on personal growth. The behavioral approach essentially aims at ensuring that a child’s behavior adheres to the basic social values set by a community and creates a friendly environment within which other children can learn and thrive (Schultz, 2015). I will have the opportunity to use different strategies while implementing the approach, the most prominent ones being positive and negative reinforcement. The goal is to reinforce positive behavior and reduce instances where a child uses negative behavior to communicate feelings or associate with others (Schultz, 2015). A good example of tools I plan to use to implement this approach is the use if rewards. My management strategy will also be child-centered in the sense that the needs of the children will influence the types of rewards I issue. The types of rewards will depend on the age of the children and can range from simple rewards like candy to more complex rewards such as permission to perform activities a child would consider rewarding. The goal for the rewards will be to ensure that they motivate good behavior without compromising on the needs of the child.
