Chapter 13: Vignette Summary

This chapter is a description of the assistance Robert needs for his health condition. From the chapter’s heading, besides being an alcohol addict, Robert is a disabled employee suffering from two main conditions, chronic lung infection and panic attacks. This vignette starts with a brief story describing the health condition of Robert and his health history. From this brief story, it is evident that Robert is 49 years of age and has been suffering from anxiety disorders and panic attacks since his early twenties (Kathol et al., 2010). Through the employer’s report on disability management, Robert has been identified to be suffering from a short-term disability. Notably, this condition has prevailed for four months, and from the report, Robert’s condition was almost getting worse, leading to a long-term disability (Kathol et al., 2010). While Robert meets various specialists, Martin seems to understand his condition better. By analyzing Robert’s health history, he develops a management plan alongside other related expenditures needed to control Robert’s condition.

The service package I would propose in this condition is bronchodilators, medications that come along with inhalers. However, based on Robert’s case, the treatment goals aim at using his health records in developing the care program. However, given an opportunity as a specialist in this case, the goals and objects I would propose will uncover the fundamental cause of this health condition and apply integrated treatment measures in managing the condition.

In planning to keep this client safe, I will keep close track of his condition by asking him to visit the specialist at least twice a week. Secondly, I will reach out to other healthcare practitioners specialized in managing Robert’s conditions to get the best advice on the proper management measures for this condition.

Chapter 14: Vignette Summary

Chapter 14’s vignette presents Paul’s health condition, suffering from a congenital heart infection, school nonattendance, and family anxiety. According to Kathol et al. (2010), Paul, who is 13 years of age, was diagnosed with a condition known as truncus arteriosis. Notably, this condition often triggers a high fatigue level, making it difficult for Paul to attend classes, and for this reason, Paul resorts to visiting a cardiologist. The check-up indicates that his oxygen saturation rate has constantly maintained a dangerous range of 89% and 85% (Kathol et al., 2010). This level further worsens, making his condition more dangerous.

As part of the care management for Paul’s health condition, his cardiologist recommends using heart-strengthening measures and water pills, alongside oxygen supplements, especially when sleeping. In addition, the cardiologist advises him to consider cardiac catheterization, which is vital in determining the nature of his heart infection. Therefore, the treatment goals in this case aimed at slowly managing the condition by reducing its severity.

Given a chance as a specialist in this case, the service package I will recommend is surgery. The heart is one of the most complex body organs. Therefore, surgery can play a vital role in managing the condition since the specialists will be able to determine finer details regarding the nature of the condition. In addition, if given an opportunity as Paul’s cardiologist, I would propose treatment goals aimed at curing his condition completely. Moreover, as part of motivation, I will act as a therapist, encouraging him on possibilities of getting better, primarily through providing evidence from examples of individuals who recovered from a similar condition.

In creating a plan to keep this client safe, I will monitor the condition closely by applying various diagnostic measures. I will carry out the chest X-ray to monitor the health condition of his heart. Besides, I will use pulse oximetry to determine the amount of oxygen in the blood. I will carry out this diagnostic test weekly.
