When it comes to making decisions, decision-makers cannot help but be influenced by their personal preferences. Such preferences may be predisposed to variables like race, gender, social status, and other own beliefs. While others may find this practice a little too bias and discriminating, this particular aspect of culture could not seem to escape society since early history. However, there is one force that does not seem to be affected by any of these factors—nature. One of the widely discussed subject today that knows no boundary is climate change. Terrorist groups may target a particular race or religion, and politicians may show personal bias towards a specific party or social groups. Nature, on the other hand, do not care who, what, where and where it will unleash its wrath. Although some people would argue that there is another force that is also both fair and impartial, i.e., justice, there are some who have claimed that justice can even be bought. Justice is not entirely blind, unlike nature. Over the years, the criminal justice system had poorly been criticized for taking sides and being manipulated by influential and powerful personalities and entities. After all, justice is determined and served by people, the same qualifications possessed by decision-makers mentioned earlier. It does not matter whether a single judge or a jury make the decision. These people still have their own sets of prejudices and biases that can affect their rationality and judgment.

It is a known and widely experienced fact that people from all walks of life had not been spared from the wrath of Mother Nature once she unleashes her anger. Over the years, this phenomenon of the periodic change in the Earth’s temperature has been so significant that it had created great transformations that changed the lives of every living creature. Going back through the prehistoric era, when the very first climate change was known to have occurred, it melted the glacier that caused the disappearance of the Pangaea. Furthermore, it also caused the death and extinction of prehistoric animals like dinosaurs. Come to think of it this was the time when these prehistoric creatures rule and dominate the Earth. The large and powerful creatures were the first to go extinct because of their size and their inability to save themselves when the great flood submerged a large portion of the supercontinent. Climate change was unstoppable at that time. If it could not be stopped when nobody was destroying the Earth with negligence and selfishness, how can society think that they can prevent it from happening today?

The problem with today’s generation is that they think so highly of themselves. Just because modern society feels that they have conquered the moon, that they can control everything else. When countries like the United States and Russia made a successful exploration of the moon and the universe, these countries were globally recognized for their achievements. Seemingly, this accomplishment was considered a breakthrough and has been perceived as the beginning of more cutting-edge and superior exploits. Year after year, the United States have proven their superiority in the majority of their endeavors. They have successfully won wars, introduced innovations, produced the greatest mind in almost every generation, and at some point conquered the deadliest plagues and diseases that took millions of lives worldwide. Due to these successes, the United States has been viewed as a world leader. In a way, the strength and power of the United States can be substantiated after the US dollar has been recognized as a global currency during the end of the 20th century.

Nevertheless, the US is not spared from the impact of climate change. No matter how strong the nation’s campaign against climate change has advanced over the years, the US is still one of the most severely hit countries worldwide when the impact of climate change strikes. Historical records would show that the United States has several destructive forest fires during the summer, the numerous deadly hurricanes and typhoons, and the blazing snow storms during the winter under its belt. The perceived superiority of this race leveled them with the rest of the third world countries who are experiencing drought because of the immense warming of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Similarly, climate change has no biases in terms of sexual orientation, social status, and gender. For example, one’s money cannot protect them or buy them a secured haven away from the ill-effects of climate change. Climate change is a global concern, and there is no place in the world that anyone can escape to that will not be reached by the effects of the warming of the atmosphere. Even Antarctica is not spared. Isolated as it is, yet this region and a few of its inhabitants have already experienced the melting of the glacier. This also causes the warming of the surface waters which in return causes coral bleaching. Despite the donations and grants of wealthy philanthropists to find a solution to the issue of climate change, combining their resources is still insufficient to resolve the increasing problem that confronts humanity.

In conclusion, it can be said that while climate change is an escalating global issue, we can still find a silver lining with what is happening. Regardless of disagreeing opinion and opposing solutions, it unites the world into one advocacy of saving the planet. Though climate change is a regular occurrence, the impact of this environmental issue does not have to hit us like a lightning strike. We can delay the effects of climate change by working together regardless of our differences and prejudices towards saving the environment.
