Currently, I am undertaking a Master of Fine Art (MFA) course in Design & Technology as an international student, which has provided me with a high level of exposure towards matters of technology and changes in the existing technological world. For my undergraduate degree, I studied graphic design, during which time I was able to find employment as a graphic designer in advertising for one year. I must admit that during that time, I had not been exposed to a lot of technology, especially concerning coding and artificial intelligence (AI). However, after my graduation, I was able to come across a broad spectrum of technology that required persons to engage in coding and development of AI. Since that period, I have always had some form of fascination towards code and AI, which led to me applying to a course in design and technology.
Through a friend that worked as a software developer, I was able to learn the meaning and basics associated with coding, which provided me with an incentive to pursue the concepts of technology further. The friend showed me how software is manipulated through the use of code with the specific focus being towards ensuring that I would be able to create software that would match my general expectation. Ultimately, that prompted me towards seeking more information through the internet, as I considered coding as being very interesting considering the overall extent of manipulation that was involved. I wanted to learn more about how I would be able to use code for purposes of creating technology that would function in a manner that I would expect based on manipulation.

Through the internet, I specifically focused on using YouTube to find free code practice services through the millions of videos that are available through the internet. I used the videos to learn more about HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, which are what would be described as programming languages. Programming languages refer to a formal language that is used in software for purposes of ensuring that the program would be able to respond in a precise manner depending on the instructions given. Technically, this refers to a language that is used as part of software to help merge the instructions provided and the projected outcome focusing on how the software is expected to respond within a given period. I was able to take note of the fact that for one to be considered as being effective in code, he or she must learn how to use these languages effectively.
My interest in code pushed me further towards attending General Assembly from where I was able to learn a lot concerning code and the overall extent towards using software for multiple purposes. I learned a lot on areas that included immersive full stack development, including front-end and back-end. Based on the knowledge and information gained from this training, I would say that it was an eye-opening experience, as it provided me with a structured understanding of how software work from a technical perspective. Although I did not fully grasp what I was learning at that time, it provided me with a new level of understanding on the general expectations associated with my continued interest in software development to help meet my general interests in this field of study.
However, I would say that my greatest shift towards technology can be attributed to my registration and actual engagement within this school as an international student studying MFA in Design and Technology. As an international student, I would say that although I have encountered a wide array of challenges in my studies and integration, my experience can be classified as being among the important events that I consider as being important on a personal level. While at the school, I attended a 3-week boot camp from where I was able to learn a lot concerning processing as part of technology. Using the information I gained, I tend to believe that it not only advance my understanding of code but also sought to build on my interest in technology further as a way of ensuring that I would be able to advance overall capacities from a personal capacities.
I am feeling more like a developer-wanna-be person than a designer because the design process that took this semester was somewhat challenging, but the coding part where I was able to build an interactive website was more fascinating to practice. This means that I find myself inclining more towards the technological aspect of designing, as I find it very interesting to use technology as a tool that would allow me to build on overall capacities from a personal level. I could focus more on debugging than just coming up with good designs. Technology relies more on the innovations that persons put in place, as this would determine how others would respond to the items that one develops. In my case, I tend to consider the technological aspect as being more favorable when compared to having to place a lot of interest on design.
I have also been able to understand the flexibility and infinite possibilities that can be associated with code, especially in solving some of the world’s major problems. The flexibility and possibilities arising from the extensive use of code reflect more on ensuring that one can build on what would be considered as a structured understanding on technology. I am much more focused towards using code as a critical tool that would enhance my capacities to deliver as a professional aimed at dealing with some of the fundamental problems that I would encounter. I intend to use the information that I am gaining to not only come up with stunning designs but also seek to develop new technological items that would match the interests of the persons that I engage with as part my career projections.
Although I may not be an expert in the field of coding, I must say that I am still inexperienced in matters associated with artificial intelligence (AI). However, I have the fascination of wanting to learn more about the extensive use of AI as part of the technological world, as I believe that this would be an avenue through which to build on technology. Additionally, I always find myself fascinated by the overall prospects associated with the use of AI in building overall capacities to match generalized expectations in the world today. I am expected to learn more about this aspect of technology in the next semesters, which has provided me with a high level of curiosity concerning what the studies may entail. I often find myself researching through books and the internet on the extensive use of AI in a bid to trying to learn more about to use this technology. I would admit that indeed all the information that I am getting concerning the use of AI is somewhat scary for me, from a personal level.
