Verbal communication strategies
For my coworker correctional officer, the verbal communication strategies that I used were that I instated on face-to-face communication because the conversation was detailed and needed to be personal. This allowed us to openly discuss the matter professionally and in-depth. I would speak calmly and openly so that I allow them to understand all details about the issue.
For the female visitor, the verbal strategy that I would use is that I would focus on the issue throughout the communication so that she does not take the matter to be personal. I would be flexible so that I can allow her to open up and give her point of view about the issue at hand.

The verbal communication strategies I would use for the children is to speak to them in a calm tone to protect them from tension and fear. I would speak in an assuring tone to make them comfortable.
When it comes to the inmate, I would be genuine with him and openly explain the matter to him. I would act with much integrity. Additionally, I would emphasize on the matter at hand and demonstrate to him how sensitive the issue is.
Non-Verbal Communication
For a fellow correctional worker, the non-verbal strategy that I would use is to maintain eye contact so that they do not lose interest in the discussion topic. I would maintain a straight posture as it is a professional issue.
For the female visitor, I would keep some distance between us so that she does not feel uncomfortable due to the invaded space. Eye contact is important to keep the visitor engaged.
For the children I would speak to them while using some gestures so that they understand the conversation, for example, I would point to the place where they are required to wait for their mother, I would smile while talking to prevent them from getting afraid.
For the inmate, I would speak in a firm and confident voice as I maintain eye contact to detect if they could be telling the truth or a lie. I would maintain a firm posture to indicate the seriousness of the conversation.
It is important to adjust the communication style and approach because it keeps the other party alert and more engaged. With my fellow correctional officer, I adjusted the approach by being brief and direct about the issue.
For the female visitor, I adjusted the approach by ensuring that they understood the issue at hand before addressing any other issue. For the children, I was brief with any issue that I communicated to them.
For the inmate, I changed the strategy by allowing time between the conversation for them to come up with their opinion.
I deescalated the situation by showing empathy and I did not become judgmental in any way.
The situation could have ended up being aggressive and violent because the inmate who is easily angered could have failed to control his temper over the issue.
