Communication is the exchange of information utilizing speech, writing, or electronic means. Organizational structures function by a myriad of departments working independently. Effective communication is pivotal to sync these departments. The connections in an organization are forged and maintained by the use of an effective communication strategy because it allows a business to get towards its goals efficiently. A dynamic communication thrives between the audience and message, whereby while the manager orders messages to employees, the latter also provides status reports that are addressed to the audience-the manager. This paper describes the different methods of communication that leaders and managers use in guiding their organization.

Coca-cola is a globally renowned soft- carbonated drink manufacturer for over 125 years (Deal, 2018). In 2018, Chief Executive Officer, James Quincey was recognized by Beverage Industry as the publication’s 2018 Executive of the year. In his acceptance speech, he mentioned that he had worked for Coca Cola since 1996 and rose gradually through the ranks. He credited his ability to lead to the knowledge he amassed working in the field. Additionally, he encourages decision making amongst all his employees. The message passed was an effective form of leadership communication. He was able to employ verbal communication, which was both intentional and unintentional. He intentionally guides the vision that Coca Cola wants to achieve and unintentionally motivates his workers by mentioning his experience in the field to rising in ranks. He uses head and heart communication to achieve transformational leadership by mentioning he values decision making (Mayfield, 2017). Verbally, his message had all the clarity in its articulation with his words not misconstrued at all. It was understandable, and without missing information, he had risen in ranks d certainly build his experience as well.

To attain synergy with Quincey’s message, a manager’s communication style should be oriented towards the output. The manager can achieve this by interpersonal communication allowing them to asses which employee is best suited for which task and other communication styles, such as non-verbal cues making them more approachable in crisis times (Remland, 2017). The manager should always employ direct verbal or written communication to achieve task completion. The use of direct communication is effective when correcting wrong because the words are powerful and effective as compared to actions. It is thus employed as a persuasive tool because its use creates room for debate, stimulating thought and creativity while deepening and creating new relationships between employees and the managers. Therefore, when a leader doesn’t communicate properly or get the message through with the employees, it becomes impossible to get maximum output from them. Employees end up empowered enough to increase their job satisfaction, through upward and downward communication.

In conclusion, there can be an overlap between leaders’ and managers’ communication styles, but each party should direct their communication on their organizational objectives. These objectives are offering a vision for leaders and crisis management for managers (Mayfield, 2017). The barriers and hurdles between the management and employees alike in the case of Coca-Cola, where James Quincey words were adequately toned and deciphered to all employees and thus bridged a gap, which key in transparency and success of an organization. His career journey was a source of motivation, thereby boosting confidence level amongst employees since it directly impacts on productivity.
