The key question addressed in this article is what does it mean to have a contract with God? Having a contract with God means having an agreement between God and man to do or not do various things outlined in the contract. The contract included some laws that should be followed, promises to his people as well as binding agreement. A contract is established when two people or more agree to abide by certain terms with the promise of a reward at the end of the agreement period. In the bible, the contract that God made with man involved some laws that man was supposed to follow so that God can fulfil his promises to him. In the old covenant, any breakage of the contract was followed by a punishment while in the new testament the punishment part was taken away and replaced by grace since Christ had already been carried the punishment of the people.
In order for two parties to function by the way of a contract there must be an agreement between the two parties and if one party does not commit to what the parties have agreed then the contract can be terminated. Using the term new covenant is a good way to communicate the principle of Christianity to people especially in the twenty first century as it is an easy way to explain the relationship between God and man. Jesus is the mediator in the new covenant. Some of the promises that are made to humans in the new covenant is that He will forgive the sins of man as well as restore fellowship with those individuals who follow him.

Currently, an individual can be saved by believing in Jesus Christ and by a promise that was sealed with his blood. Those who trust Him are also assured of an everlasting life and He will always be there for them (James, 2015).
