Disposition | Description of how the disposition is met |
1. Psychological fitness |
This is met through self-assessment to get awareness of the motives for taking the counseling profession. I deem myself as having met this disposition because I have the passion and know the motives that led me to taking the profession. I understand my incomplete mental as well as psychological challenges and always try to control and resolve them before attending to a patient. I also observe high self-care and look for resolutions to issues that emerge in the course of my services. |
2. Acceptance | This disposition is met in the way that I am able to accept the condition of the client. I am also able to create a healthy environment suitable for the positive progress of the patient. The environment I provide for them is one that is non-judgmental and appropriate for a successful therapeutic process. I know my personal values and beliefs and do not seek to impose them on the customer during the therapeutic process. I am able to tolerate their personal values and beliefs. |
3. Patience |
I know that the results of a therapeutic process do not just fall in place instantly, but require time. I always recognize and respect the efforts to get control over their personal lives. I seek to enhance an environment that fosters self-empowerment for the customers and listens to their voice during the therapeutic process. I take time to monitor the steady progress of the client while recording set-back. This is done with the patience it deserves until the customer succeeds to gain the expected reforms. |
Disposition | Description of how you plan to improve the disposition |
1. Genuineness | Genuineness is one disposition I am yet to meet since I am tempted sometimes to engage in treating clients within fields that I do not qualify. In order to meet this disposition, I plan to get trained in diverse therapeutic skills so that I can deal with clients who have varied problems. I intend to get licensed in all the fields where I get training so that I become certified to practice without any fear of being victimized for unethical behavior. |
2. Self-awareness | I also do not meet this disposition because I do not recognize the areas that I have no expertise. I have to change the way I view my profession and ensure that I am able to recognize fields where I lack the requisite training to practice. This way, I will be able to be aware of my qualifications and avoid dealing with customers who are beyond my scope of service. I plan to get the maximum self-awareness requisite for pr4oper service. |

Does Janet have a valid complaint? Why or why not?
Jane has a very valid complaint because she realized I was trying to tackle an area I had no formal license to address. Therefore, it is within her rights and interest to file a complaint with the licensing board.
How would you respond to the Licensing board complaint?
I will first review my insurance coverage after receiving the notice of the complaint. I will ensure my professional malpractice insurance is intact and active and that it covers complaints with the licensing board. I will then make an immediate contact with a lawyer who has knowledge in administrative law and expertise in professional license complaint defense. The lawyer has to be conversant with licensing boards and understand the disciplinary process. I will then ensure my responses are brief, genuine and polite all through the investigation process.
How would you avoid this type of complaint in the future?
I would avoid any future by ensuring I meet all the dispositions required and expected of a counselor. Moreover, I will ensure I get training in other areas such addiction and get the relevant licenses before attending to clients who have issues related to these fields. Avoiding to practice in areas am not licensed will be another way to avoid future complaints (Walz & Bleuer, 2010).
Why counselors in private practice have special risks and obligations with regard to ethical decision making that may be different from those of counselors who practice in agency settings.
Most private practice counselors do not have insurance over license board complaints or even malpractices hence the level of risk that they face is uniquely high (American Counseling Association, 2014). For the counselors in the agency settings, they are covered by insurance companies hence do have such risks and liabilities.
What special precautions or practices should a private practitioner adopt?
Private counselors must seek to have insurance covers over malpractice and license board complaints. This is the only way to cushion them from liabilities and risks. They also have to meet all the required dispositions before they start practicing.
How should counselors in a private or a group practice setting determine accountability and cost containment?
Achieving accountability and cost-containment demands that the there is transparency in the manner funds are expended and payment made is strictly in tandem with the performance of the counselor (Buckwalter, 2016). Only necessary expenses should be accepted and addressed.
