Homeopathy as an Effective Alternative Treatment Method

According to Shaw et al. (2010), ADHD is one of the most prevalent disorders in children in the US. Shaw et al. (2010) posits that approximately 5 percent of children who have attained the age of going to school are affected by the disorder. Still on the statistics, more than 3.7 percent of children in elementary school take ADHD medication. Most of the children affected are those from Caucasian backgrounds with a rate as high as 17 percent. The most common type of medication administered to the victims is stimulant medication which involves taking of dextroamphetamine and methylphenidate. However, many parents are beginning to abandon conventional treatment methods and embracing homeopathy to treat children with ADHD.

Homeopathy remedies involve the mixing and diluting of various mineral, herbal, as well as animal substances depending on the symptoms of individuals. People, especially in the US have begun to develop a preference for homeopathy for various reasons. The first reason is that the conventional treatment methods are too expensive while CAM treatment methods such as homeopathy are relatively inexpensive (Burman, 2003). The second reason is that people have begun to think that health and wellbeing is dynamic; it involves both social, physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing (Bedford, 2012).

Chronic illnesses such as ADHD may affect the way children learn and usually takes a lot of time to care for the victims. People in the contemporary US are often busy hence; have no time to take their children to health centers frequently. It becomes necessary for adults to adopt a treatment method that is flexible for both their children and themselves. Secondly, Guido et al. (2015) points out that CAM treatment methods usually do not have adverse effects on the users. On the same note, people who have allergies to some types of medication can use homeopathy without getting any side effects. With the current suspicion of modern treatment methods and risks of cancer and other hospital-infections, homeopathy is ideal for care of children with ADHD disorders.
