Case three of the interactive scenarios addresses monitoring children’s online world. In this scenario, Jon and Anna have children on the same grade 7 soccer team. At one game, Jon talks to Anna about monitoring her child’s social media usage. Anna realizes that Matthew has too much online independence because he does not share any serious encounters with her (EDC, 2013). Jon tells her of a picture of Mike posted by Kate. Mike felt embarrassed and asked Kate to take it down. The other children commenting on the online post said mean things to Mike (EDC, 2013). Both parents realize that despite the fact that none of their children was involved, they are still exposed to negative online activity.

Anna realized that she needed to monitor her son’s online activity due to the case she just witnessed from Jon. Asserting control over a child who has experienced a lot of freedom can be difficult for parents with tough schedules like Anna (EDC, 2013). Jon helps her with some information to ease Matthew into accepting the new conditions. He should leave his phone out of his bedroom when going to sleep. Anna should place the home computer at a place where she can easily see it. Anna is successful after having a discussion with her son on the issue (EDC, 2013). Mike, the victim of cyberbullying may feel angry, frustrated, and depressive. It causes lower self-esteem for adolescents, which is associated with depression, self-harm and suicidal ideation.

Analyzing the scenario shows, that Anna is not conversant with the current social media sites. Before parents establish rules pertaining their child’s social media use, they must learn how various social networking apps work (EDC, 2013). The situation in the scenario stretches beyond Jon and Anna’s children, hence the need to talk to the school’s guidance counselors. Parents must address monitoring children online presence in parent-teacher meetings (EDC, 2013). Teachers and parents can thereafter teach Internet safety, effects of cyber-bullying and build self-confidence.
