I was shocked to learn that body movement features correlate with cultural traits. In this film, I learned about the two main body movement features; trace forms and trunk movements. According to the film, trace forms occur in single, dual, or triple dimensional. On the other hand, there are single-unit and multiple unit-trunk movements. Several examples are given as illustrations to differentiate the two features of body movement. What shocked me most is to learn that most simple economies use one-dimensional trace forms in 70% of their dances.
I was also mesmerized by the story in the Choreometrics’ project. This story and its narration are very engaging, explaining where the authors compare songs and dances of different cultures worldwide. Alan Lomax and his associates would link these songs' unique characteristics and dances to the cultures where they originated. Therefore, watching the analysis of music and dances in this film revealed to me that Lomax and his colleagues meant to present the viewers with cultural information that could not have been accessed otherwise.

I was delighted to learn that Lomax and colleagues contributed significantly to preserving the world’s music heritage, especially music and dances of marginalized populations. I believe that preserving the remnants and records of human craftsmanship defines different communities ' history and culture. Understanding and preserving music and dances of the past generations is crucial to defining our history and culture. This understanding and preservation help generations understand the way of life. Therefore, documenting the music and dances of different communities using photographs, videos, or other forms of art helps preserve a given community's history and culture in a way that is directly accessible.
I was surprised to learn that dance across the world is a form of expressive culture. Lomax and colleagues wanted to prove this by conducting series of cross-cultural studies of dance from different cultures across the globe. The authors conducted these studies to find similarities and differences in dance movements and styles across different cultures, which led to Choreometrics. Surprisingly, the authors found unique characteristics in dance movements of different cultures; thus, they concluded that dance is a form of expressive culture.
