According to Snell et.al (2016), different employers have developed mechanisms to alleviate costs which are associated with health hazards and related issues. Some employers are hiring employees who for instance are potentially non-smokers, persons with a BMI of 30 and below in regards to weight-related issues and persons with credit scores of 630 and above. This paper is, therefore, a brief description of personal thoughts in regard to such mechanisms of dealing with health hazards and general safety-related issues in workplaces.
Workplace hazards tend to cause health and safety risks with great potential to harm. Depending on different work environs where employees work, different health hazards are likely of which some are relevant to the particular business. Employers have however pursued many different strategies over the years in order to regulate health care costs and consequently improve health care. Unfortunately, majority of these employers have been disappointed by their efforts to manage this health hazard related costs and have tried to advise employees on better lifestyles which include being ethical to have a better credit score, reduction of obesity and reduction of tobacco smoking. This is because, from my own viewpoint, such employees tend to be less productive and however add up to the health care costs.

The escalating insurance healthy costs are the big reasons why some employers have moved to this extent of not hiring some categories of people such as smokers and the obese. Employers also seem to charge more on workers who have no control over their cholesterol levels or even handle their obesity and also hardening the survival mechanisms for smokers. Research reveals that tobacco smokers tend to consume about 25% more healthcare services than non-smokers. To this regard, the employers are finding it reasonable to balance costs in the provision of quality coverage.
Although these programs of prohibition of workers from entering the job market have no basis as per some health acts such as OSHA and HIPAA laws, I concur with employers that only health workers give productive results in workplaces. To mitigate such health care costs related to health hazards thus calls for individual employees to take responsibility and if not so they can be laid off.
