Corresponding Scriptures for the Death of Christ
Mathew chapter 27:50 summarizes the death of Christ when it says that "Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost." A similar account is provided in Mark 15:37 when it is written that "and Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost." The book of Luke provides a slightly more detailed explanation in chapter 23:46 when it states "and when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said this, he gave up the ghost” (Harmony of the Gospels). In John 19:28-30, it states that "when Jesus, therefore, had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost." The significance of Jesus' death was to ensure that the sins of humanity are washed away thereby giving people a new opportunity into the kingdom of God (Elwell, & Yarbrough, 2013). The death also established a relationship between God and humanity through salvation.
Corresponding Scriptures of the Resurrection of Christ
In Mark 28:1-10, the Bible recalls the resurrection story focusing on the women, the rolled stone, and the angels sitting beside it. The angels reassure the women that Jesus had risen and asks them to spread the word to the disciples. Mark 16:1-11 provides a similar account of the resurrection of Jesus by illuminating the role of women and angel who consoled the women that Jesus was alive. The story is further reflected in Luke 24:1-12 and in John 20:1-18. The resurrection has several values in the ministry of Jesus Christ. First, it validated the fact that indeed, Jesus was the son of God. It was also a fulfillment of the old prophecy and most importantly, redemption for every human being whose sins had been washed away by the blood of Christ (Elwell, &Yarbrough, 2013).
