Topic A

Trait-oriented Personality theorist claims that specific kinds of personality are extra prone to the violent character. Recent studies relate violent character with personality traits such as suspicion, hostility, defiance and many more (Ontario's Youth Action Plan, 2015). Indeed, most criminals are short of perseverance, ambition, hot-tempered and hold unusual beliefs. The utilization of MPQ and MMPI in assessing youths' personality characteristics has reliably yielded a statistically important relationship between criminal behavior and particular personality characteristics (Ontario's Youth Action Plan, 2015). For instance, youths who tend towards violence usually retort to frustrating situations or incidences with robust negative emotions. Psychological testing describes them to be paranoid, impulsive, acts quickly against alleged threats and hostile.

On the contrary, social learning-oriented theorists argue that to achieve successful prisoner re-entry back to the society demands more than just training based on skill. The theory emphasizes the thought that learning happens within a communal context. People observe and learn from the character of others and outcomes of such characters. Continuous mutual learning among environmental, behavioral and cognitive is termed as social learning (Bandura, 1977). The theory focuses on such ongoing learning in the community. This involves observational learning concept that is built on four pillars; motivation, motor reproduction, attention, and retention.

Topic B

Social psychologist who approves of deceptive and stressful research designs are misleading as they ignore greater social forces like neighborhood disorganization, poverty, and racism that can strongly influence violence character. The trait-oriented personality theorist claims that prisoners receive psychological treatment to avoid future violent behavior and such programs are based on social learning ideology (Ontario's Youth Action Plan, 2015). The prisoners undergo extreme mental appraisal to find out their treatment requirements. Such rehabilitation strategies may include drug abuse treatment, training on anger management among others.

However, a social psychologist who is of the contrary view bases their ideas on the social learning-oriented theory that recognizes factors like motivation, attention, retention and motor reproduction. It presents a shift from a complete behaviorist viewpoint to greater focus on self-regulatory methods and motivational factors contributing to individual’s behavior (Bandura, 1977). People model their own and the neighbors' environment. Social learning-oriented theorist seems to have an analytical mind and keen enabling her to take the right position. Personality theorist is open-minded and perhaps has critical thinking.
