The previous study focused on people with eating disorders; and specifically its epidemiology. The study took a quantitative approach because of the numerical data used in conducting research. However, the research would also have made use of the qualitative research method by measuring analytical data that focused on the experience of the study sample. Despite the technique used, the researchers ensured the credibility and validity of data, which enhanced the viability of the research.

The type of data collected for this study was quantitative, in the form of numerical data on individuals with eating disorders. In case the researchers used a qualitative approach; the type of data collected would have been analytical; which would have been used to examine the culture by understanding the experiences of the sample. The numerical data was compiled based on the variables that were being studied, which included incidences, prevalence, and mortality rates.

Furthermore, the researchers ensured the reliability of the data by first obtaining the data online: Using an online platform to collect data ensured that there was no manipulation of the data collected. Additionally, the researcher collected data from small groups of people that were associated with eating disorders and combined it to form aggregate numerical data. On the other hand, the validity of data was upheld by involving a sample population that was associated with eating disorders over a while. This sample population ensured that only individuals associated with eating disorders were used for the research, hence maintaining the validity of data.

Credibility and dependability of data contribute to scientific merit by ensuring the legitimacy of the research process. The research process involves data collection, data analysis, and data interpretation (Onwuegbuzie & Leech, 2007). The use of credible and dependable data ensures that the right data is collected; hence, accurate results are achieved.

In conclusion, the study employed a quantitative approach that analyzed numerical data. This data was rendered credible and reliable by examining the people associated and the type of data collected. Credibility and reliability of data ensure scientific merit by providing the collection and analysis of the right data to get accurate results.
