Describe the theoretical frameworks used by the authors. 

An analysis of the scholarly resources indicates that the authors take advantage of different theoretical frameworks that would allow them to engage their readers in creating a connection between the variables that they intend to discuss. The first theoretical framework that can be identified from the scholarly resources revolves around the use of a working hypothesis to help in creating a connection between the theory and issues being studied. A working hypothesis is a type of hypothesis that is provisionally accepted to serve as the basis for further research. An example can be seen from the article by DeVylder, Oh, Yang, Cabassa, Chen, & Lukens (2013), which takes advantage of the working hypothesis as the main theoretical framework that seeks to examine the issue associated with acculturative stress and psychotic-like experiences among Asian and Latino immigrants. Similarly, Swaidan (2018) also makes use of a working hypothesis that allows for an efficient outcome in the evaluation of the acculturation strategies associated with Asian Americans. In another article, Motti-Stefanidi (2018) develops multiple working hypotheses that help in highlighting the extent to which immigrant youths remain resilient while seeking to highlight the role of culture, development, and acculturation.

Another theoretical framework that can be identified from the scholarly resources is pillar questions, which can also be considered as questions that provide readers with a guide to what the study seeks to explore. The idea behind the use of descriptive categories can be seen from the fact that some of the studies explore more than one variable. Titzmann & Lee (2018) engage in a study on adaptation among young immigrants through the use of descriptive categories that aid in an in-depth presentation of the issue on the study. Fedi et al. (2019) are also able to build on their descriptive categories, which play a key role in ensuring that the study is presented in a manner that can be justified as being effective for the individual readers. The use of a practical ideal type theoretical framework occurs in assessment research studies, as it seeks to provide some form of justification based on the assessment conducted while remaining keen on the best practices. In this case, the use of this theoretical framework can be seen from the fact that some of the studies seek to engage in an assessment of an issue touching on immigration while seeking to find a viable solution to the issues in question. In such resources, it is evident that they take advantage of the practical ideal type theoretical framework, which allows them to provide readers with a clear assessment of the variables that they are using as part of their study outcomes. Yagmur Erten, Pieter van, & Weissing (2018) make use of a practical ideal type theoretical framework in trying to highlight specific acculturation orientations that influence the evolution of a multicultural society. The framework creates a positive outcome in maximizing on specified study outcomes allowing the researchers to present information in an organized manner.

Another notable theoretical framework that can be identified from the scholarly studies is that associated with models of operations research, which focuses specifically on decision-making as a way of ensuring that the study can provide the best solutions. The central aspect to note is that the studies focus on an emotive issue touching on immigration into the United States with the focus being on challenges that immigrants face. The use of this theoretical framework, which can be seen in some of the scholarly resources, provides readers with a transparent approach through which to evaluate decisions touching on the problem in question. The expected impact is that this will of great value towards creating an adequate standard through which to find the best solutions to the challenges facing the immigrants. Titzmann & Lee (2018) establish what would be considered as perfect control on the use of models of operations research in their research on the adaptation of young immigrants. Similarly, Salas-Wright et al. (2018) reflect on the issue of mental disorders affecting immigrants within the United States; thus, highlighting the value of using the models of operations research in the presentation of a positive recommendation to help in dealing with the issue effectively.

Lastly, the use of a formal hypothesis is also identified as a critical theoretical framework that some of the scholarly resources take advantage of in their bid to creating an enhanced platform through which to connect with individual readers. A formal hypothesis is defined as a useful hypothesis that can be justified as a testable statement during research. The use of a formal hypothesis, in most of the studies, provides researchers with a structured approach through which to examine their respective hypotheses. That works towards determining whether the hypotheses can be considered as being accurate or whether they ought to be rejected, taking into account that they do not represent an accurate outcome of the study. Portes & Rivas (2011) engage in a study focusing on children immigrants, which allows them to make use of a formal hypothesis that can provide them with an accurate understanding of how children are affected by immigration. Medvedeva (2010) also uses a formal hypothesis to aid in the development of the theoretical framework with the sole focus being towards highlighting perceived discrimination and linguistic adaptation of adolescent children of immigrants.

My research topic is The Relationship between Acculturation and Adaptation of Immigrants in the US: Do Immigrants Acculturate First Before Adapting or vice versa? My research topic relates to each of the frameworks in a manner that seeks to build on a sense of justification for what the study intends to achieve. Regarding the working hypothesis, the topic relates from the perspective that it is somewhat easy when intending to develop multiple hypotheses to guide the nature of research. On the other hand, the topic, in itself, may serve as a pillar question; thus, meaning that the use of this theoretical framework may be guided with the sole focus being towards answering the question. The question will serve as a guide for what would be presented as part of the study outcomes.

When considering descriptive categories as a theoretical framework, what is clear is that the research topic creates two main categories of information that must be gathered to help build on effectiveness in the presentation of information. These are categories associated with acculturation and adaptation of immigrants. The practical ideal type theoretical framework relates to the topic considering that it seeks to build on an extensive platform through which to provide an avenue for assessment. That makes it much more comfortable when intending to build on expected efficiencies in the delivery of best possible outcomes. The use of a formal hypothesis can only relate to this topic if the researcher can create a formal hypothesis that the study will seek to support. That will can be achieved through an extensive evaluation of the topic to determine some of the critical objectives of the study while supporting a proactive direction in the direction of the study.

Based on your analysis, which framework best applies to your topic? 

Based on the different theoretical frameworks identified from the scholarly resources evaluated, the most suitable framework based on my research topic is the use of a working hypothesis. It remains clear that the use of a working hypothesis does provide not only a clear sense of projection in delivery of the best possible outcomes but also creates a high possibility of establishing a clear connection between the variables. That means that the researcher will be expected to create different working hypotheses and select one of these hypotheses as to the working hypothesis. The hypothesis can either be supported or disowned by the study conducted, taking into account that the information gathered will act as the primary determinant of expected outcomes in the presentation of findings.

Justify why this theoretical framework applies to your topic area and literature search. 

The topic relates to the working hypothesis theoretical framework, as it is much easier when evaluating the topic by first having to develop a working hypothesis. For example, 'immigrants acculturate first before adopting' may be considered as a working hypothesis that will seek to create a framework through which the study would deliver on its intended objectives. The use of the working hypothesis will help in ensuring that the study can build on its effectiveness in trying to prove or disown the hypothesis, which will lead to a formal hypothesis. From that perspective, it is clear that the working hypothesis will act as the main suitable theoretical framework that the study will need to adopt in the presentation of a clear connection between the variables.
