Bullying is termed as one of the violent behaviors whereby an individual injures or makes another person not to be comfortable intentionally. As viewed in various studies, nearly every person has been bullied in one way or the other. The behavior is common observed, specifically at school, home and workplace. Bullying has a damaging effect on human development, especially children, therefore, making it an important issue of study on the subject. It is essential to note that bullying corrupts the brain development process in many children (Sharp & Smith, 2002). Development of a child is affected negatively by bullying as a normal brain development process needs sure minds. 

Many children lose their self-esteem due to been bullied each and every time. When bullied physically and verbally due to race or gender, an individual may lose self-confidence. If they have some weaknesses, the effect is very disastrous as it makes children hate themselves. For instance, if a child is disliked and bullied due to their weight, they will develop more self-hate (Sharp & Smith, 2002). It is the parent’s responsibility to provide a child with protection against the effects of bullying. It will enable the child to recognize that each and every person is unique. Henceforth, every individual needs to be proud of being exceptional. Researchers state that low self-esteem may lead to depression and isolation of a child; other than making them less socially.

Different researches have stated that sexual and gender orientation have a substantial role in bullying behavior. For example, it is clearly viewed that females are more bullied than men at their places of work, school and home. In addition, sexual orientation may lead to an individual being bullied (Sharp & Smith, 2002). Lesbians, bisexuals and gays are often bullied that individuals who are straight. Moreover, other individuals may be bullied because of their religious beliefs. Nowadays, many Muslim individuals are bullied because they are viewed as terrorists. This is because many terrorists are affiliated with Islamic religion.
