Social Cultural aspect of Kanye West

The social aspect of West started after he dropped from college to pursue music. It was a norm in the United States at the time once a student finishes high school they must join and complete the college before pursuing their intended career. In contrast, West dropped out to pursue a career in the music field as a producer. He produced music for the local singers until he developed his own brand ‘chipmunk soul’. He later started producing songs for Jay Z. this enabled gain reputation by producing four songs by Jay Z. this made him produce tracks for other stellar talents including for Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Ludacris and the singers Alicia Keys and Beyonce. He changed the perspective of the society for college dropout.

Despite Kanye recording for big brands, he was not contented with it. He wanted to start rapping, but he lacked ‘gangsta’ credentials for being a rapper. He was a middle-class kid with outfits that did not qualify to be for rappers. He went to different record labels but they denied his request because he was a middle-class person. He produced his first rap song after he was involved in an accident. It was the base of his rapping as most of his songs are based on his real life experience. He came up with the album such as the ‘college dropout’ as well as recording songs. He also launched his fashion collections. His venture into rapping changed the society’s perception that only kid from the high-end economy class can be musicians.

Diagnostic Information

Diagnosis involves the identification of an illness or a condition by the examination of the disease. Attention deficit disorder is a form of disease characterized by lack of persistence that requires cognitive involvement and a tendency to move from one activity to the other without completing (ICD-10, 2015). Several other abnormalities that may be associated with individuals with the Attention-deficit condition include; such people are always reckless and impulsive, they are prone to accidents and still find themselves in disciplinary trouble because of unthinking breaches of rules rather than deliberate defiance.

Signs and Symptoms of Attention Deficit Condition Portrayed by West

In the context, West is perceived to be having attention deficit disorder. He does not want to engage in learning since it requires cognitive involvement, thus making him drop out of college. It portrays that he was not willing to engage in education as education requires cognitive involvement persistently. When West dropped out of college, he wanted to be in the music industry, and he starts by being a producer. After some time he wanted to be rapper as his primary career. After his mother’s death and breaking up with his girlfriend he started singing. He later joins the fashion industry and opens up his fashion line. It clearly demonstrates the symptom of moving from one activity to another without completion, as there was enough space for him to develop one thing.

One day as West was driving home from work, he got involved in a head-on collision that left him with a shattered jaw, thus explaining how this condition made him prone to accidents. The incident also states how he is reckless. West had impulsive nature of doing things. He writes songs based on his experiences. He wrote and sang a song by the title ‘Through the Wire’ which talked about his accident and how he felt about it. Also, as soon as his mother died, he went on to write a song titled, ‘hey Mama,’ which he dedicated it to his later mother as well as helping him recover from the grief of the loss of the special person in his life. All these examples demonstrate how West may have been suffering from attention deficit disorder.

Clinical diagnostic practices require making cognitive bias, assumptions and other confounds. This is because diagnosing someone with an illness and telling them of it without evidence can lead to one getting sued to the court. Therefore, there are various requirements, especially in the diagnosis of mental disorders that are requiring to be followed to make a sound judgment of an illness. Before they make any consumptions or bias, clinical officers should establish if the diagnosis is truly the client’s interest (Barsky, 2020). However, bias may occur when diagnosing a mental disorder since most of the mental disorders share some symptoms and signs. It means an officer can tell a client disorders which there are not really suffering.

Theoretical Orientation of Attention Deficit Diagnosis

Attention deficit disorder is a mental disorder found among children and adolescents. It’s characterized by hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. According to Suren et al. (2018), these signs and symptoms should be present in a child before the age of six and should occur in multiple settings where the child spends most of his time for a child to be diagnosed with attention-deficit. According to the same source, boys are more likely to suffer from the condition more than girls in any given area of study despite observing that only half of the attention deficit cases reported.

Over the past 35years, advances in diagnostic methods, identification, and treatment of attention-deficit have advanced in a significant rate. It is the most common type of behavioral disorder among the children whose effects exceed into adulthood for both males and females which lead to being identified as a health issue. The symptoms begin when one is a child and goes on affecting the academics and the social interactions of the person even at an older age (Mahone & Denckla, 2017). Different criterions diagnose requirements for attention deficit disorder. Its symptoms should prevail between the ages of seven and twelve; they should be of inactivity and impulsivity must be present and the provision for diagnosis for people of 17 years of age and above which require presence of five rather than six symptoms of inactivity.

Comparison and contrast of the orientations

In the two theological orientation, there are some similarities between them as well as differences. Both of the two theoretical orientations state that the main symptom of attention deficit disorder being inattention and impulsivity. Also, both directions say that the symptoms must prevail at a younger age. It means an adult assumed to be having a attention deficit disorder must have experience such symptoms at a younger age; otherwise, they can only diagnose but no supportive evidence of being ascertained of the disease meaning it’s relatively difficult to diagnose an adult of the dysfunction since there is minimal information of their childhood unless provided by a supportive person.

Besides, the two orientations have some differences. Suren et al. (2018), state that the symptoms of the attention deficit must have been occurred at the age of six years and below for a child or an adult to be diagnosed with the condition. In contrast, Mahome & Denckla (2007) provides a wide range of age gap that one can be termed as having attention deficit condition if they possess the signs at the age below 12 years. Individuals that did not portray the signs by the age of six years can to be termed as suffering from the disorder if the symptoms occurred between the age of six and twelve.

Empirical Support for the Diagnosis

From the diagnosis I made about Kanye West, there is supportive evidence from the theories that he might have been suffering from the disorder. According to Suren et al. (2018), male children are more likely to suffer from the disorder rather than female children. Also, divorce of West parents’ at a younger age may have caused him lack adequate parental leading him to the development of the disorder. The symptom of inattention, among other symptoms, may have caused the disturbance (Mahone &Denckla, 2017).

Conclusion

To sum up, attention deficit disorder is a mental illness which has been affecting majority of individuals around the world. From its symptoms ranging from hyperactivity, impulsivity to inattention, it has made a more comfortable work for the clinical officers in the mental sector. Therefore, from my analysis of West’s life, starting from how he was born, how her mother raised her, his loss of her mother at a young age and how the society first rejected him when he wanted to pursue rapping to his career might have led him suffering from the disorder. Due to some of the symptoms that have been described in his character and how he handled issues.
