Therapists have increasingly used diagnostic statistical dimension as a guide for a diagnostic formula for particular mental illness (.American Psychiatric Association, 2013). From my view, the application of categorical classification has been helpful to both the patients and therapists because it provides an opportunity for reducing the time taken in summarizing the information for quick reference. Based on the manner in which therapists use the Diagnostic Statistical Manual, the technology has been helpful in divining the kind of treatment prescribed to each. Practically, several factors determine the type of services that an individual receives in a health facility. In some situations, individuals suffering from the same kind of illness especially mental disorders receive different forms of treatment. This discrimination indicates that people of different social status experience various ways of therapy because therapists can anticipate personal information before investigating the illness. The use of categorical diagnostic ensures that people receive the same treatment because this technology analyzes the disorder efficiently and the level of income of the patient has little influence on the diagnostic process. Human beings are subject to errors as they conduct different forms of activities. In healthcare facilities, therapists need to be careful when undertaking any therapy. As a result, the Diagnostic Statistical Manual provides guidelines for therapists to refer whenever performing their duties thus preventing errors that could occur during the process.

The dimensional classification of Diagnostic Statistical manual relies on symptoms of a particular psychiatric disorder to come up with a viable mechanism for addressing that issue (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The manual provides a list of symptoms for every disorder thus making it easy for therapists to give the treatment associated with each sign. The functioning of this kind of system appears to be effective in offering therapy to people with mental illness. In any form of treatment, traits associated with each type of a disorder are essential. Though the Categorical Dimension may be helpful in treating people with mental disorders, the procedure may be unsuccessful especially in situations where people need evidence of the existence of the disorder. Dimension approach acts as one of the surest ways through which therapists can prove that an individual suffers from the proclaimed disease. From a personal view, the dimensional approach needs to be incorporated into the current classification because symptoms are essential determinants of the kind of treatment not only for mental disorders but ant form of therapy. Combination of the two aspects proves that current dimension in handling patients with mental illness by reducing the expected errors during treatment.

From personal assumption, the current classification system of diagnostic statistical manual risks can lead to different forms of challenges that result from the diagnosis mechanism used by therapists. This technology has received various types of difficulties which may create different sources of errors making the entire process ineffective. For instance, the system relies on symptoms and may end up resulting in misinterpretation of the symptoms. The nature of the classification shows that therapists focus on examining the availability of a particular sign in the person with a mental health problem. In situations where the patient’s behavior fails to match the existing traits, there is a possibility that the same person will be treated for an imagined disorder. Giving a wrong prescription exposes the victim to several other complications thus threatening the lives of individuals. Some requirements of the diagnostic process require therapists to monitor a particular symbol and failure to adhere to this procedure results in severe challenges in the treatment process.
