The experiment involved a small sample size, lacked a control group, and may have been subjected to bias . Clark's doll experiment was designed to investigate the psychological impact attending segregated schools had on African-American children. This experiment involved two hundred and fifty-three children from segregated areas in the North and the South. Most of these children, the Southern group, were many and had not attended mixed-race schools. The sample size was very small to conclude that all African-Americans children form the USA have similar perceptions, preferences, and attitudes. The researcher should have experimented in different parts of the country and used a larger sample size to have a bigger picture of African-Americans in different regions. The experiment lacked a control group, which could have controlled any factors that could influence the results. In addition, the experiment was carried out by two African-Americans who wanted to prove that African-Americans were stereotyped. The researchers would have manipulated the variables to obtain the results they wanted and have the court rule in their favor.

The NAACP lawyers would argue that the experiment involved children, most of whom have not developed bias to a certain race. Most of the participants, particularly from the southern group, had never attended a mixed-race school. The results clearly show that most children preferred the white doll compared to the brown one. This indicates that most African-American children have a psychological that the whites are superior even though their racial biased had not developed. This can be supported by the result that acceptance of the brown doll increased as the age of the child increased, which can be interpreted like racial bias development where a child understands their race and favors it most. In addition, the participants were not coerced into the experiment and carried it as a normal game, which displayed their true perception as the decision to choose a doll was theirs. Each child gave a specific reason why they choose a doll.
