Question 1

I agree that the Native American philosophy of education differs much from the traditional European perspectives on learning. This is because even before contact with the Europeans, the Native Americans had founded an efficient educational system that had guaranteed a smooth transmission of their philosophies to the subsequent generation. The philosophy entailed teaching the youth skills, values, knowledge, and the various dispositions that led to their prosperous functioning as grown-ups in the real world (Pesce, 2018). Your points were articulate on the differences as you pointed out how the Americans had to send their kids far away from their homes to boarding schools to ensure that they were culturally assimilated. The education philosophy of the Native Americans was underpinned by a reverence for nature and a sense of human being responsible towards nature. According to  English Standard Version Bible , 2001, Psalm 24:1, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world and all who live in it.” This lesson relates to stewardship which is a theological belief that people should take care of the world.

Question 2

I agree with you that slaves were uneducated and were thought to be unable to make informed decisions. After Nat Turner’s rebellion of 1831, the U.S legislation passed bills into laws that limited the black community from accessing education (Breen, 2021). However, the rebellion had lasted for less than 24 hours. Still, it had prompted a renewed wave of oppressive legislation that prohibited not only people’s education but also their freedom of movement and assembly. You presented your points so well on the white people’s fear that if the African Americans learn how to read and write, they would have had the will and determination to plan escapes and uprisings in the south. Subsequently, a majority of slaves who had acquired literacy managed to form civil rights movements. However, according to  King James Bible  (2008), Ephesians 6:5-8, “Slaves should be obedient to their master with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of heart, as to Christ.” Subsequently, the slaves should be treated justly and fairly, with masters bearing in mind that they have a Master in paradise.
