According to Maquire (2012), the structure of law enforcement organizations in the US varies depending on the level of civilianization, bureaucratization, personnel arrangements and the span of control in the organizations (p. 61). The structure of these organizations also depends on the number of staff and the roles that each department of the organization does. This paper explains organizational chart of my local law enforcement agency which is the Douglas County and City of Douglas Police Departments.
The Department’s principal mission is to provide services to the people and to ensure the safety of members of the public. The department also carries out other law enforcement functions such as law enforcement, traffic enforcement investigation of crimes, community policing and provision of correctional services. The Douglas Ville Police Department is the primary law informant agency or organization that serves a large part of the Douglas County. It has a crime reporting section and also provides for members of the public to report a violation of the police code by its employees.

The County Sheriff
At the top of the department’s organizational chart is the Chief Sheriff, who oversees all the other lower division within the organization. He is charged with the overall administration and management of the departmental affairs of the organization. According to Stojkovic, Kalinich, and Klofas (2014), the management and administration of modern criminal justice organizations involve supervision of all the affairs of the law enforcement agency and management of people. The effectiveness and success of a law enforcement agency are thus predicated upon the quality of top leadership. The organization’s management should take into account the fact that people management is imperative in accomplishing the organization’s missions.
