Early childhood development is a critical time for a child. It is at this age that the child gets to develop and begin to learn things. Thus, this background is vital for the child as it will have effects on the child’s future. As a head start teacher from Atlanta, Georgia with over 18-year experience in 3 and 4-year-old kids, I have interacted with young kids and I understand the challenges they encounter in their early stages of growth. Therefore, I would say that this age for kids is also significant to the parents. This is because parents are the first teachers for their kids as they spend most of their early lives with them. Early childhood development entails concepts such as cognitive, physical, and psychosocial ( Bassok, Finch, Lee, Reardon, & Waldfogel, 2016) . Connectedly, the paper discusses the essential concepts that parents need to understand about the role of early childhood development.

The cognitive concept plays a significant role in early childhood development. The cognitive concept helps the human mind develop and grow throughout the human life span. This concept aids in decision making, remembering things, and problem-solving from childhood to adulthood. Thus, the cognitive concept is related to brain development. Although to some the brain development may be affected or associated with a genetic issue, majorly, it is the environment which affects. Thus, parents, you should provide your kids with a conducive and friendly environment as it affects their brain development. Also, talk to your kids and engage them in more conversations as these help them develop their language, which helps in cognitive development.

Also, there is a physical concept. The physical concept mainly deals with how children handle objects, the child’s movement, health, and the child’s understanding of their body. Activities that the child can engage in this concept include running, writing, playing with toys, and any other physical activity suitable for kids ( Smith, Gotman, & Yonkers, 2016 ). This builds their muscles and makes their bodies flexible. Therefore, parents, you can engage your kids in small actions in the house to help them develop physically.

Finally, for the psychosocial concept, it deals with how the child relates to people socially, their ego identity, and their self-confidence. In this concept, the parent has many experiences that they offer to their kids. For example, you can indirectly influence kids with your actions, such as conversing with someone else in the presence of the child.
