Interesting

Some of the factors I find more interesting about the assigned reading journals include the discussion of what makes teachers efficient and the human memory. The article about teaching states that effective teachers mostly rely on research findings and questions based on this research to teach and make decisions on how learning and teaching should proceed. This article also indicates that an effective teacher work consistently to increase and improve their knowledge and skills in their careers (Whitebread, 2002). Similarly, this article indicates that the teacher needs to effectively understand each child and know how to help it go through different stages of school life. For example, the article requires that the teacher should help a student like Anna to transition from middle school to high school smoothly. The teacher also needs to access Anna’s performances to know he real course of fluctuations and devise effective methods of helping the student improve her academic performances.

The article about the human memory is interesting n the way it classifies the two type of human memories. According to the text, human has both short and long-term memories. The short-term memory stores information for a limited period and easily erases the information especially when it is not needed for longer durations, on the contrary, the long-term memory stores information for longer periods and does not easily erase such information (Stevick, 1976). These types of recall make it possible for people to retain important mental data for long while deletes the information they do not require. In so doing, human being learns to remember and store important data by encoding them in their brain in the form of long-term memory but erases what they don’t need by remembering them for a short time in the short term memory.

Stimulating/exciting

What I find intriguing or exciting about the article that discusses an effective teacher is the choice of words that the author uses. Secondly, the article talking about the human memory is also exciting based on how the author uses appropriate words to describe the human memory. Both articles adequately use words that are simple to understand and hence makes the readers gain an in-depth understanding of their contents. For example, any student pursuing teaching as a career will find great help by using both the articles. Such a student will be able to develop effective teaching skills and strategies for helping student to understand complex materials as they transitions from one level of learning to the next (Kalat, 2016). On the same note, the teachers will understand that learning does not end after graduating from college.

However, they will know that they need to conduct effective research studies to improve their knowledge and skills. They must also be able to understand their student and examine their performance by looking at their memory sans and the difficulty of the new grade levels (Whitebread, 2002). By understanding these two concepts; the teacher will be able to adjust according to by developing learning materials that enable the students to learn from known to unknown contents. They will also be able to filter knowledge that needs to be kept in the long-term memory and those that should go to the short-term memory. Such an action will make it possible for a student like Ana to improve their recall abilities, which will eventually improve performances.

Practical/ useful

What I find useful in the two articles is the way they try to make teachers enhance their knowledge and skills in their professions. Similarly, the articles help teachers understand the students more. I find these factors useful because as a psychology student, I will be able to conduct sufficient research to improve my knowledge of psychology especially in the area of human development (Kalat, 2016). Conducting effective research with the aim of understanding children and young people will help me organize my teaching lessons well since I intend to be a professor of psychology. By reading these articles, I will be able to be an active professor who develops adequate teaching skills to promote learning among my students.

By gaining insight on the contents of these materials, I will be able to come up with materials that are appealing to my students hence improve their learning abilities. Similarly, it is important to understand how the human brain works to support memory and other functions. In so doing, I will be able to use practical exercises that can allow my students to form long-term and short-term memories as they undertake their studies (Stevick, 1976). Similarly, I will be able to pass on effective teaching and learning skills to those students who world want to be teachers and psychology professionals in future. Similarly, I can recommend the two texts for teachers and teacher students to help them improve their careers. They can also use such materials to help them understand their students and promote active learning among them.
