As an elected governor, one of the most fundamental things I should know is my constitutional mandated role. I will be the principal administrator of the state government, and I will oversee executive functions such as acting as the commander-in-chief of the state's military force and appending signatures to bills passed by the legislature. Some of my skills that would prove essential to this position include proper management of resources and sound decision making. Furthermore, I am an individual with excellent conflict resolution and diplomatic skills that would be vital in solving the various forms of confrontation in different state agencies (Dye, & MacManus, 2015).

Just like at the national level, I believe that mature politics should also be emphasized at the state and community level. As such, this will promote democracy and proper governance as people will be accorded an opportunity to critique their leaders (Dye, & MacManus, 2015). In this regard, some of the skills that I will need to add to my repertoire include inclusivity, accepting criticism, extensive consultation, and critical thinking. The legislative arm of the government will create laws that will require my input to come into effect. As such, I must remain cognizant of my importance, and all decisions should center on their significance to the citizens.

I also remain aware that my period as a governor is a make or break period with regards to my future political ambitions. As such, I must strictly adhere to the principles of democracy and also remain alive to the fact that the position is a high calling to serve the people. I would want my biggest legacy to be that governor who not only changed the lives of people but also empowered various communities to ensure sustainability in the generations to come. Therefore, I must remain keen to listen, both to friends and critics, and ensure that my government acts within the dictums of morality.
