I chose the article on The Real Bias Built in at Facebook by Zeynep Tufecki. It was printed on 19 th May 2016. I used the article because many individuals use Facebook for them to communicate with their family members and friends. Facebook is used by news reporters and people to express their frustrations. Tufecki claims that Facebook is biased (Tufecki, 2016) . The main aim for the reasoning is using critical thinking that results in utilizing the course of thought and assist an individual in overcoming the challenges of thinking. Argument supports an individual to improve their thinking process (Paul and Elder, 2014). The article will be analyzed using the eight characteristics of reasoning.

Purpose: The article aims to inform the public that they are not in control of the activities they view in Facebook (Tufecki, 2016) . The websites algorithms control the things considered by the Facebook users.

Problem: The author wanted to answer the question: Is Facebook being biased with its content? The data that people may want to access in their Facebook accounts cannot be available because the complex algorithms hide it. The algorithms disclose information on mass shootings, brutal actions of police and activities of the Islamic state of Iraq along with Syria (Tufecki, 2016) . The Facebook algorithms reveal information that the users are not interested in viewing.

Information: The algorithms are complicated computer programs that can perform numerical computations using data on people concern to give the best results chosen by the computer experts.

Inference: Tufecki concludes that the Facebook programmers set trending information concerning their sentiments. The writer claims that the programmers do not disclose all the trending data in Facebook (Tufecki, 2016) .

Concept : People need the different kinds of algorithms utilized by Facebook to be open for them to have many choices (Tufecki, 2016) .

Assumptions: The assumption in the article is that Facebook encloses information from the public. People cannot view the things the status updates of their friends or the individuals they follow (Tufecki, 2016) .

Implications: The Facebook programmers should be open to the users’ preferences for them to get satisfaction on the information displayed for viewing. The programmers should not be biased in updating information based on their sentiments (Tufecki, 2016) .

Point of View: The Facebook algorithms should be given guidelines on meeting the interests of the Facebook users rather than the employees of the Company (Tufecki, 2016) .

Consequences: The Facebook algorithms limit the freedom of people to view relevant information. The public receives unnecessary information which could result in increasing the illiteracy rates. Facebook has the power to decide the fate of politicians and companies as a result of using algorithms (Tufecki, 2016) .

Conclusion : Tufecki’s reasoning on the bias carried out on Facebook is logical. This behavior could be practiced in other websites on the internet. Many social networks post information that is not relevant to their sites to get the attention of the public. Many websites on the internet widely use algorithms.
