She mentions that advertising is all about selling an experience, an idea, or a feeling that appeals to the consumer. As such, it does not matter who promotes the product.
This situation violates the concept of fairness, honesty, and integrity. For one, Kunies is expected to lie to consumers about her bacon consumption. She cannot mention the fact that she stopped using bacon because it was increasing her cholesterol. She, therefore, has to tell the audience what it wants to hear. This is blatant deception. In the same breath, Kunies is a respected member of society. Hence, by deceiving the public, she will be compromising her integrity. While the advertisement does not violate any laws, it is not ethical. Accordingly, one may wonder why Daniel is overly concerned with the content of the promotion message. It, however, bears noting that not everything legal is ethical. Daniel’s reaction to the advertisement means that he is aware of the ethical implications of lying to the masses. Kunies’ celebrity status will undoubtedly boost the Uber bacon’s sales even though the advertisement is based on a lie.
