Being a CEO of Success Our Way Inc., I would like to become a youth counsellor. My mission there will be to create activities and be a consultant of the Atlanta Ga urban area to help the youth realize their full potential and solve the problems they face day in day out. For this reason, I have read the code of ethics for the non-profit organization’s director and the code of ethics for social workers.
The code of ethics that the director should discharge duties to the best of interests of the corporation is necessary to avoid running the organization and making decisions for personal profits other than the organizational interests. The director according to the code should be open to using information and opinions from officers that he/she believes to be reliable, a legal counsel, a board or religious leaders (NASW, 2017). This ensures that the decisions made are correct and allows the director to make the best decisions based on the best advice from various groups. The director should also not rely solely on his knowledge without consulting relevant groups. This makes the director more accountable and sound decisions that suit all are made. If the director’s actions are in line with the code, then no one should question his decisions. This code protects the director against people who may have personal interests from questioning him and swaying his decisions to favor them.

The code of ethics for a social worker is useful in that by being committed to the clients, self-determined, maintaining a professional relationship with clients, being competent, confidential and avoiding conflicts of interest will win the client’s faith in the social worker. Culture influences how people seek help (Justia, 2010). Freedom, Charity and delivering services in the most impressive way possible characterizes a social worker because they are foundations of all social practices (Frunza & Sandu, 2017). Being culturally aware when dealing with clients makes them feel close thus easily disclosing all the information.
In my view, the code that states that the director should take advice from people he deems to be reliable should be erased and replaced with a code that clearly illustrates the probable actions a director should take when faced with certain circumstances. This will ensure that the director is not advised by people with personal interests similar to his, thus making decisions to favor him and the advisor. An impartial board should advise the director.
