Briefly Introduce and Summarize the Article

Claire & Manuel presents the information regarding the dilemmas of drug testing within the employment sector. Moreover, they provide arguments of both the critics of the drug testing of employees and the reasons as to why some employers engage in drug testing activities of their workers (University, 2015). The article starts with a case study example of one of the workers who was fired for rejecting to be drug tested by her employer, which is a clear sign that various ethical problems accompany workers' drug testing. Thus, employee drug testing is legal but is associated with implications that require amendments.

Do the Author’s Arguments Support his or her Main Point?

University (2015) arguments strongly support the main point of drug testing dilemma to the employees. Moreover, employers participate in drug testing activities to protect their business because they invest heavily in workers (University, 2015). They expect the workers to reciprocate by putting effort into achieving the set targets. For instance, employers spend around $ 100 billion every year for employees' recovery due to the abuse of alcohol and other drugs. Through binge drinking, the workers can register many days of absenteeism against the company's policies.

What Evidence Supports the Main Point?

The main point is that drug testing among the employees is one of the strategies to prevent higher job turnover rates and protect the workers' wellness. The abuse of drugs such as alcohol at the workplace can result in severe issues like causing an accident, which, in return, affects the whole company. For instance, individuals who use drugs can cost the company three times the cost of their wages, which brings some financial budgeting deficiencies.

How Could the Topic of this Article Apply to your Professional Life and Organization You Have Observed?

From personal observation, one organization within my resident was fined by the court of law for indirectly being involved in criminal activities of abusing drugs. The worker was diagnosed with overdosage of cocaine that affected his mental health. Perhaps if the company had adopted the drug-testing strategy, the employee would not have experienced mental health problems. Therefore, drug testing among employees is the best component to reduce drug abuse rate among citizens.

How Would You Explain the Role Of Leadership in Corporate Culture, and How Would You Describe Leadership Styles and How they Affect Ethical Decision-Making?

Leadership styles play a vital role when it comes to ethical decision making within the organization. Moreover, leaders are expected to ensure that there is smooth running of things to win the company and instill the team's spirit working on getting positive attitudes about a particular issue (University, 2015). For instance, through the practice of the democratic style of leadership, the employees can participate in the company's decision-making. Through the course of the democratic leadership style, the organization can know the impacts of drug testing on employees.

Are there any Inherent Unethical Practices with Drug Testing, though it is Technically Legal?

Even though drug testing on the employee is legal, it still poses an ethical challenge to privacy rights. The drug testing process involves strictly invading the worker's privacy at random, which is humiliating (University, 2015). For instance, the drug testing results show that the individual body contains drugs but does not mean that it affects a person's work. Thus, in most drug tests show the drugs that were used days earlier.

What Conclusions Can You Draw about the Ethical Issues Facing Business Leaders?

Even though some critics argue that it is unethical to conduct drug tests on employees' leaders should find ways to involve the workers in the drug testing to be fair. Moreover, they should respect the employees' freedom and be concerned with how their behavior affects the company if the actions contribute to the collapse of the company's goals. Therefore, to solve drug testing's dilemma on workers, the leaders have to incorporate cultural and privacy ethics.
