Assignment Discussion
Prolonged terrorism refers to regular terrorism attacks on an area, and they have long-lasting effects on individuals as compared to isolated attacks. For instance, the regular attacks launched on Israeli civilians by the Hamas terrorist group are classified as prolonged terrorism. One of the significant effects on individuals is trauma (Grieger, 2006). Most survivors of these prolonged attacks are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. They continuously live in fear and anticipation of the next terror attack ("Counter-Terrorism Module 14 Key Issues: Effects of Terrorism", 2018).
Prolonged terror attacks also affected the Israeli economy, causing job losses to many individuals. One of Israel's sources of income is tourism, and these attacks have caused fear to tourists vacationing in the country, leading to the loss of jobs in the industry (Waxman, 2020). Bombing attacks also destroy civilian businesses, resulting in low living standards. Prolonged terror attacks by Hamas have caused discrimination of the country's Islamic citizens because the rest of the civilians associate Islam with the terrorist group. Prolonged terrorist attacks are more difficult for the individual than isolated attacks because they have long-lasting effects. These attacks cause a cloud of fear, and it takes a long time to recover from a wave of prolonged attacks (Waxman, 2020).

Children are adversely affected by acts of terrorism. Children suffer loss as a result of the death of their parents during a terror attack (Browne, 2003). This robs the child of an opportunity to grow while experiencing family love. The second factor is that children may experience displacement and separation from their loved ones as a result of terrorism. The third factor is that children exposed to terrorism experience PTSD, causing anxiety, behavioral changes, and nightmares. I think that terrorism has a significant and long-lasting impact on children. Terror attacks cause psychological effects on children leading to mental illness even in their adulthood (Browne, 2003). It is another form of child abuse, and measures should be taken to prevent this.
