The family under investigation are new members of my church. There is little information about them, and thus the project provided an opportunity to have a better understanding of them.

Roles play a vital role in making sure that there is a healthy family functioning. The role of the husband in the family is providing vital resources such as money, shelter, and food. The role is supported by the wife who also provides resources such as clothing and food. Both the man and his wife have the role of nurturing and supporting their children by providing warmth, reassurance, and comfort. There is also flexibility in the roles especially when it comes to finances as the man and wife act as partners in the family. Informal roles also exist in the family including housekeeping, provider, and childcare provision which are assigned based on gender. Housekeeping and the provision of childcare are roles attached to the wife while the husband is the provider. These roles very active, and they are important in supporting the family. The parents serve as role models, and they influence the children to work towards achieving their goals.

Every discussion on the rules in the family is between the wife and husband in the family. The assigning of responsibilities is according to the roles of each member of the family. It means that members of the family are often satisfied with decisions made and is a reflection that the leadership is effective.

Because all the decisions made in the family are from a discussion between all the parties, the members often have the feeling of togetherness. There is a strong attachment between the family members. From observation, it is clear that there is the presence of attachment and bonding. Most of the recreational activities in the family involve every member and it encourages togetherness and maintains cohesiveness.

There is always a high risk of conflict occurring in the family and to mitigate the effects of conflict the members meet to discuss issued identified. The husband takes advantage of his active listening skills to identify the issue from the perspective of those involved in the issue to resolve it.
