Characterization of heroism in the scene
Shortly after Luke and his crew members survived the deadly attack, they decided to make their way to the cloud city to unfold the underlying misery of their enslaved friend. Obi-Wan reminds him of how to lay low to conceal his identity in the foreign territory. No sooner does Obi-Wan arrive with his friends, one of the soldiers demands to have an identification of C-3PO, who is quite distinctive due to the golden texture that makes him visible from a distance.
With great suspicions, one of the Cloud city guards stops the ship to examine the character that seems to be unfamiliar to him. The guard takes a closer look at Obi-Wan, before, turning his head scanning Luke and finally, to the two creatures that accompanied Kenobi and Luke, at the back seat, R2-D2 , and C-3PO.

Sure enough, one of the guards is certain about his conscience that the two robotic creatures are not from the localities and their faces are so unfamiliar. It is for sure that the guard is going to un marks the reality of the matter, when he demands the true identity of the two scared creatures, R2-D2 and C-3PO ( Thomas, 2015 ). Luke assesses the situation and, with no doubt, he is convinced that the reality will be unmasked, this step seems to jeopardies their mission and even lead to their arrest. A wave of panic has by far grabber the rest of the crew members in the ship. Unfortunately, Obi-Wan seems to be relaxed throughout the interrogation; soon when the situation seems to be getting out of control, he steps in to rescue his trapped friend in the guard’s demand. Miraculously, he managed to control the guard by making him repeat what Kenobi desires and not what the guard wishes to say.
As a way to escape the trap, he manipulates the senior guard who later permits him to leave the scene. Luke is amazed by the action and skillful acts of the old man’s trick. Furthermore, he admits that he was not sure if they were going to make out of the situation, considering the arrogance that was portrayed by the soldier at the first point who was demanding to have C-3PO’s identity.
The way in which directorial decisions about filming the scene help in this characterization.
Obi-Wan is a true Jedi; he uses his skillful ideas just like any other member of the crew would have done to gain an advantage. Unfortunately Luke and his friend are not part of the Jedi members. Furthermore, the old man is full of secrets that he has failed to mention to Luke. Despite the revelation of Luke’s father being Jedi as well, Obi-Wan refrains from telling his student the naked truth about his father being alive and the relationship that exists between him and his twin sister Princess Leia ( Thomas, 2015 ). However, he refrains from this to ensure the safety of her, knowing the capable action that Luke may take against her.
Homosocial relationships
Obi-Wan has been Luke’s first mentor, he has raised the young man under his care training and monitoring his actions. Additionally, he has also developed a personal bond with him like a father; the relationship may be accidentally mistaken to be considered as a family bonding.
The figure of authority
Luke’s Father Anakin has now taken over to become the Darth Vader. Although Luke is not aware of this, that the real mastermind responsible for the attacks was his biological father, Obi-Wan uses his authoritative powers to advice Luke on the safety precautions and the consequences that may accompany them in case of the strike back. Additionally, it is his dutiful act to ensure that the young man is safe from danger.
How does he enforce this authority?
Obi-Wan is a Jedi, he knows on how to get to his comrades, he uses skillful techniques to lure the enemies to his need, through this, he managed to buy his way in during the interrogation with the guards ( Thomas, 2015 ). He has mastered the art of skills on how to attack indirectly manipulating the individuals to rule in his favor.
Heroism and masculinity
In many case scenarios, heroes are depicted to be having supernatural abilities to portray their courage. Additionally, some tend to have physical powers to gain an advantage over their counterparts. However, this is not the case, represented by Obi-Wan. He is an old man. Furthermore, he appears to be physically weak to the extent of sending him to the ground with only a single hefty blow. Nevertheless, his heroism is depicted in a much different manner that leaves Luke wondering how he managed to buy their way in. Through this, it is quite sure that masculinity does not necessarily have a direct impact on the case of heroism. Obi-Wan is old though he found a lope hole to secure his comrades an opportunity to the city.
Archetypal elements of Obi-Wan
Obi-Wan is completely loyal and dependable to his comrades; he puts the interests of his friends ahead of what he wishes to do. To begin with, the broken C3PO robot is brought back to life after the capture of Cloud City by the Empire. Secondly, his unremarkable skills free Han Solo from the Hutt; he pretends to have been captured, slightly shaking to bring the reality of his fear of the authority and compliance, with only one hidden secrete of rescuer mission.
In spite of his age, Obi-Wan takes a brave move that no one had a chance to do it. He single-handedly shuts down the death star core, Saving live on the planet.
