I had always been curious about the life my professors live outside school. Having seen one side of their life, I never thought I would get to glimpse of the kind of life they live outside the campus. Everyone knows one version of their professor and rarely gets to see them outside their profession. This semester, in addition to knowing the academic portion of my professor's life, I was also able to glimpse into her life as a mom. This was facilitated by the fact that I took up remote learning due to the pandemic. Everyone was forced to take the remote course to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. Throughout the course, I was able to glimpse into small parts of her life as a mom. I was able to see how caring and loving she was like a mother, and this was very exciting for me. I was able to better understand her as a person and not just as a professor whose work was to simply educate me.
I had always known my professor to be a kind and nurturing person through the way she conducted her classroom to facilitate human connection during these lessons. I was also able to see her nurturing personality come to life as a mother. These were exciting times for me, and I would always look forward to her lessons. However, before this, I had been very anxious about the experience and was not sure how it would turn out. Taking up a course remotely was a new and interesting experience for me. I had never been interested in remote learning. However, the professor took her time to explain in-depth how the course would play out the whole semester. She also used humor throughout the course to ease the tension that people had taking the course, and this helped me ease the anxiety I felt taking the course.

College and Remote Learning
Since this was the first time taking a course remotely, there are a few things that I would like to see in the next semester. First, I would like to see the lessons broken down to 15 or 20 minutes, especially when the concepts being introduced are relatively new or technical. I find that sometimes my concentration span diminishes when the professor is explaining new material that I have a hard time understanding. My mind wanders to other things, especially now since we are learning remotely, I have many distractions at my disposal. I also feel like the lesson should be more interactive to counter the issue of distractions. The professor could set up the platform in a manner that allows students to take online quizzes during the lesson and get immediate results. This is a unique and beneficial form of retrieval practice that helps jog the minds of the learners and ensures their concentration throughout the lesson.
I would also like to see students get offered both synchronous and asynchronous courses. With the pandemic continuing, more people continue to suffer, and some college students are forced to work to support their families. These students have to find a way to balance their school and work life. Having both types of learning will ensure that these students have options for which lessons they attend. This flexibility will ensure that they do not have to defer their studies or drop out to be able to work and support their families. I would also like to see the professor schedule small breakout groups on zoom after the lesson is over. These will help students discuss the material they have just read to better comprehend it. The professor should moderate the discussions while allowing the students to offer their unique perspectives on what they understood. I believe this will not only help learners but also allow the professor a chance to see how effective her teaching strategies are.
