Ashfordton is located on an isolated ocean inlet, the base of a snow-capped mountain, and is surrounded by forested land. the area is the capital city of the New Bridge State, which makes government agencies the leading employer in the region. It is well known for its beauty, characterized by tall mountains, visible from downtown. Windy days are some of the features commonly experienced when living in areas near the mountains. Given that the city is near mountainous terrains and the coast, a lot of windy days are experienced in the community. Therefore, installing windmills to pump water and generate electricity will be my first suggestion for food resilience and sustainability measures ( Barrett, Evans, Griffiths & Perry, 2017 ). The pumped water supports farmers by enabling proper irrigation systems, which results in yielding enough crops for consumption. The use of windmills to generate electricity in most cities has resulted in less pollution when compared to hydro coal and geothermal power, which makes it more efficient in environmental conservation ( Parise, Rao & Reddy, 2018 ). Crops thrive more in a pollution-free environment, a factor that will enable the availability of surplus food to sustain Ashfordton’s population. Although the windmills will enable the availability of irrigation water, applied irrigation techniques must be conservative to avoid exhausting water sources. Drip irrigation is, therefore, the most efficient technique that can be applied to prevent the water sources from depleting, while at the same time providing the crops with enough water ( Zhuo & Hoekstra, 2017 ). The method will make it possible for farmers to use available water sources for generations. Using drip irrigation not only conserves water ( Bensel & Carbone, 2020 ). It also enables water to go straight to the roots of the plants, which denies pests a favorable harboring environment for breeding and destroying crops. the implementation cost of the method is also low since simple PVC pipes are the only requirements to install the system ( Daoud, Peter, George & Dani, 2017 ).
