Weapons of mass destruction (WMD) have become rapidly used against the United States. As a result, efforts to put up measures that help to counter the use of WMD on its soils have been developed over time. These measures are frequently improved and changed owing to the fact that the technology and methods of attack used also change with time. Just a slight negligence could lead to the death of citizens in great numbers. The FBI points out that the use of biological, radiological, chemical or nuclear weapons is catastrophic .This is exemplified by the degree of impact these WMD have on the Americans.
Occasionally, terrorists and other nations have frequently used these weapons of mass destructions against the United States. Production and use of these weapons has been on the rise lately, despite the State’s effort to minimize their existence (Bush, 2009). Countries such as Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea pose major security threats to the US in terms of security. These countries continuously develop nuclear weapons irrespective of the agreements made to prevent such activities. For instance, in 2017 North Korea conducted numerous ballistic missile tests. Russia was as well said to have developed the ground launched cruise missile contrary to the INF treaty, which bars countries from developing such weapons.

The use of nuclear materials to create WMD is a great challenge to the United States. The damaged that result from nuclear agents is critical. However, despite the idea not to use nuclear weapons, the mentioned countries still develop them mainly with US as their target. The FBI argues that the use as well as existence of such weapons might be a great threat to their security in the future. It is therefore essential for the country to intimately protect itself from such threats.
