Jesus expects the same from his disciples. In Matthew 10:37, He says that a person who loves their mother or father more than Him is not worthy of Him.

The promise God made to Abraham reveals that He is a sovereign savior. At the beginning of Genesis 12, there is no sign that Abram was seeking after God.
