My member is Harley Edwin Rouda Jr who is a member of the US House of representatives and heading California’s 48 th district. He was born on 10 th December 1961 in Columbus Ohio. He is married to Kaira Rouda and has four children. He is a graduate from the Ohio state university where he obtained his MBA and did his undergraduate from Kentucky University. As a lawyer student he worked part time as a law clerk and this stirred up his desire to become a lawyer when he was done with his studies. After passing his bar examination he began working at a law firm in Ohio. In the course of his work as a lawyer he also got involved in various charity issues and organizations.
His political career sparked off a long time when he considered running for the office of the city council but later aborted his plans. He was raised by parents who were republicans and his first step towards politics was to register as a republic throughout his youth until 1997. He left the party to become independent because he saw the part taking a direction that he considered wrong in regard to several social issues affecting the people. He took a different path of voting for democrats since 2004 but he donated something to a republican nominee in 2007. He supported John Kasich in 2016 but was however defeated but Donald trump. In 2017 he declared his decision in vying for the seat of a member of the US House of Representatives from the California’s 48 th congressional district. Before him was Dana Rohrabacher and he defeated him becoming the current member. He however used the Democratic Party ticket to vie for the position. He received democratic congress campaign committee in 2018 in the nonpartisan blanket initial elections.

Rouda’s goal or issue in the area as stated in his initial campaign manifest was the ending gun violence in the place. He stated that it is the as a result of partisan political that people are killed because of the looming division. He stated “ Enough. Every day over 90 students, teachers, sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and co-workers are killed by gun violence. We must do more to stop this national epidemic. Now is not the time for partisan talking points that divide our country, we need to enact common-sense reforms that will keep all Americans safe (Ballotpedia 2019). From his manifesto I realized that he mentioned the various killings that have been taking place in the area and promised to deliver nothing but the best. One question however that I ask myself is that is he exceptional? Or he is just stating empty campaign words to get the seat? We shall know from his successes so far.
Another goal that Rouda states is that of economic improvement. It is a song that has been sang by several politicians not only in the area but also in other parts of America. I do not know if he is different of just like the others. He explains in his manifesto that he wants to ensure that the area has viable economic projects which will create job opportunities for the people in the region. He mentions about strengthening the middle class and creating jobs which brings a sustainable income. Rouda also stated that he will ensure the availability of quality but affordable education that is suitable for all the people regardless of their social economic status. he further explains that several graduates finish school with huge debt awaiting them a case he considers threatening. Rouda explains that he wasn’t to change such narrative he explains “ Many of our students face insurmountable amounts of debt when graduating from college, only to find the job market is less than friendly. In addition to fighting to make college accessible and affordable for the next generation, I will push for funding for early education programs such as Head Start and pre-kindergarten. All students should have access to 21st century technologies in the classroom…” (Ballotpedia 2019). He is motivated in freeing the future generations form the debt issue. Rouda also has an objective of women being treated equally as men by given similar opportunities such as at the work place and in leadership. He also has the plan of ensuing that affordable quality health care is availed to the people in his area. In his speech he explains “I supported the Affordable Care Act, because while it was not perfect, it was a step in the right direction. The ACA nailed it with prohibiting discrimination against those with pre-existing conditions and allowing children to stay on their parents’ plan until age 26. But no policy is perfect and we must continue to adjust, reform, improve, and expand the ACA” (Ballotpedia 2019). He has great plans for the area but I want to see if all this come to fruition.
Rouda believes in unity and working together a thing that he tries to instill in his people in the area. He stated that division is what brings chaos and people killing one another. He has put in efforts to ensure that people are united and working towards a common goal of prosperity. He explains “ our nation can tackle the critical challenges of addressing climate change, of rebuilding a crumbling infrastructure, of confronting homelessness and protecting Social Security and Medicare” (US congressman Harley Rouda).
Among the bills he has sponsored is transportation and public works, sports and recreation, environmental protection and taxation. Most of his contributions from PAC’S, to a tune of $98,600 from the retired $ 147,755, democracy engines $ 12,922 and Qlogic corp $ 11,220. It does not distort his ability to represent the constituents because he is focused and has defined goals to achieve within a given time frame (Open secrets 2018). He is a the career stage of an expansionist, Rouda is in a safe seat because he has delivered some of the goals he promised for instance security and uniting the people in the area. He represents the district and the Constituents quite well because he has managed to unite people, working towards good infrastructure in the area, creating affordable home plans and ensuring that the homeless people have a place to stay as proper plans to eliminate the issue are under way.
He is also protecting Medicare and ensuring that the people get quality but affordable medical care. Although they are in the minority party it he has managed to push for several agendas for the people in the area. Because he is focused in ensuring that he delivers what he promised he is likely to retain his seat during the coming elections. Unlike the former he has worked close to the people and ensured that he listens to their grievances and address them in line with the goals stated at the beginning. In my view he is what the people in the California’s 48 th district need for change and better lives. He is one political who did not give empty words to please the people and get votes but he has the interest of the people at heart. He is the ideal person for the development in the area.
